Travelling From Southampton to Manchester HELP!!!
Options
Hey
I plan to travel up to Manchester from Southampton on Saturday 28th May, just for the day for a football match. And I have looked at the prices of ways to travel up there and they are ridiculously expensive.
So could people help me to find cheap deals or ways to travel up there, I havent got a car so that rules that one out.
PLEASE HELP !!!!

There is a dircet service opertated by Cross Country. http://www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk/ You need to see if there any 'advance' tickets are availabe which are considerably cheaper but you normally have to book them a few weeks in advance.
EDIT: Just had a quick look and dosn't look like there are any advance tickets so the fare is appears to be £72.50 return.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
coach is generally cheapest but takes a long time and depending on kick-off time, might not get you there early enough. If it is a local team, are your supporters club running any coaches?
If not, your best bet is to look for a car share, try asking on your teams website forum to see if anyone is driving from your area and then offer to split petrol with them.0 -

Advance Singles are available at £37.50 out and £35 back on your date.
That is around £20 off an Off Peak Return at £91.90.0 -

As your travelling there and back in the same day, you can split the journey saving around £20 on the Off Peak fare of £91.90 (Not London)
Southampton to Reading £16.60 Off Peak Day Return
Reading to Banbury £10.60 Off Peak Day Return
Banbury to Birmingham £16 Off Peak Day Return
Birmingham to Stafford £9.10 Off Peak Day Return
Stafford to Manchester £19 Off Peak Day Return
So Return £71.30 valid on all trains that day but the trains must call at the split stations. Which all direct Crosscountry trains do and no need to book in advance buy on the day of travel, but give yourself plenty of time to explain what you want from the ticket seller.Whoa! Despite what Tilt says, those are Advance Singles.
£37.50 out and £35 back.
Add the 2 together and then re-read my previous post (#2). I didn't spot the fact that they were advance singles but at least I got the price right!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
