No More Projects thread

Hi all,

I have just had to admit to myself that I have far too much going on. In my drive to be moneysaving I regularly get involved in DIY, home made, restoration type projects. Thats the good bit. The down side is that I have soooooo many projects on the go that I rarely completely finish one before starting the next. The result is that I never fully realise te money saving benefits of what I've attempted to do for example, I was convinved I could save myself a small fortune by doing my own tiling. I bought the tiles and they have sat happily in the box for the last few years and I have got used to a kitchen with no tiles as other 'new more interesting' projects have come over the horizon. So now I am surrounded by evidence of chaos and failure to finish. I also end up spending loads of bits of cash getting the materials or tools I need for my next pet project.

SO I will be listing here the projects I need to finish and reporting my progress and if anyone wants to join me you would be more than welcome. Your projects can be anything big or small and no project is too old or too shameful to start lol ... WE CAN DO THIS

As a starter list I currently have on the go...

Renovating the kitchen (since 2008)
Fitting bathroom (since Feb 2011)
Restoring garden bench and table set (since Mar 2011)
painting a wardrobe (since 2010)
Altering curtains (since 2008)
Making and decorating office space (since 2004)
Making pictures for walls (since 2009)

I'm sure there are loads more than this but this should get me started... and each of these will have loads of little steps that will break down for myself.

So in short I am promising myself that I

Will not take on or start any new projects however exciting they seem orhow much of a 'bargain' they seem
I will spend no more cash on any new projects
Will spend some time (no matter how small) doing something to ensure I suceed in this goal EVERY DAY.

lets go

I'm not a completer-finisher either. However much I make lists - things only get finished if I assign actual time to do it in.

I do groan when the OH mentions another project that we need to start; sorting out the decking is one that we were supposed to do over Easter; I got the boards, the old ones need taking out, the new ones cutting to size and drilling and fitting - would probably take an afternoon but the allotment calls me and I have to go!
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Oh I'm just the same! Can I join you?
My current list is as follows:
Flooring for our bedroom (er... since 2000!)
Replace cheap and nasty shelving in dining room with 'grown up' furniture (2000 again)
    Decorate kitchen/diner (2009)
Paint/ restore bedside tables (had to check this but according to Ebay, since 2009)
Making curtains for bedroom/lounge (Fabric bought in 2010)
    Finish decorating bathroom (Feb 2011)
Pave back garden (ongoing since about 2005)
... and lots and lots of little jobs. We were spurred on briefly when we thought we could be moving house and would need to sell but that hasn't come off so we're back to square 1. I have lists galore of measurements, what I need to finish the jobs etc - just not so good at getting on with it!
I think the idea of doing a little bit each day is brilliant - I'll start right now with renewing the sealant in the bathroom....when I've done reading the forum.....and watching the athletics from Manchester...and putting away the ironing......

    Esmy your very welcome

I've done my bit for today so I can feel pretty chuffed as I've made a start.

Painted the skirting boards in the kitchen and first coat on the the unpainted bits of plaster to seal it. Can move on to proper painting and glossing in the week

    Well Done to you!
I've done the bathroom sealant, cleaned the paint off the ceiling roses (I'm enthusiastic but messy) and spray painted some bits and bobs for the bathroom to match the new colour scheme! I'm so impressed that I'm back on here with a large piece of chocolate cake as a reward.
    We'll get there!!

Yeah, and then use the time for what I assigned it for:rotfl:

My task is: Finish painting the kitchen, job's 3 years old. It's the bit over the sink, drainer and washer and I'm not very tall so need to devise a strategy that doesn't involve a trip to Accident and Emergency:D

Just a quick bit today as I'm heading out for dinner...
    • Second coat of emulsion on some of the fiddly 'cutting in' bits. I've kept a big jam jar of paint and a brush wrapped in cling handy so I can do little bits when I get time
    • Used the pot of ready mixed filler that has been sitting around for ages waiting for some action to fill a crack on the kitchen wall

    Bring on the food

    Go

    Still going.

Crack sanded and given a coat of primer along with all the other bits of rubbed down plaster.

Dad booked for tomorrow to fix the final electrical socket and then should be able to paint through on Friday!!!
