Getting new house and will have a satellite installed with connections to 3 rooms.

Room one will have my humax foxsat hd pvr in (which will be fine)

However my question concerns rooms 2 & 3.

Can I just buy a second hand skybox (or skyplus) and use those with a freeview card to watch TV. I know there will be no sky plus functionality but my wife likes the sky menu set up and is familiar with the remote.

I am not too concerned about HD or the ability to record in rooms 2 & 3 but sky plus boxes are going for a tenner or less down the boot sale and it seems a cheap way of buying two more boxes.

Will they be able to watch different channels at the same time. ie is the channel dictated by the dish or the box?

Many thanks

obviously you will need a quad LNB (one output spare) and three separate cable feeds from the dish to each of the rooms. with three separate digiboxes, each room can show a different channel.

You will need two feeds ideally for the foxsat , and one for each of the two other rooms. I am assuming that you want to record up two channels at once on the humax.

Fantastic - And if I was to pick up a couple of old sky boxes then could I pick up free channels from them using the traditional sky menu and remote.

Yes will want to use two for the Foxsat so I guess the others would both be singles as wouldnt be recording devices. Woudnt mind HD but I think as the sky systems are so cheap to pick up I would get a couple of those.

You might need an up-to-date viewing card to view some channels. I'm not talking about premium / subscription ones either.
