Allergic reaction to ferns

our gsd has raised lumps on his nose not causing him to itch just large bumps we have ferns in the garden and he has been put in his head in them , seem to remember they can cause a reaction can any one advice. Many thanks have also posted on pets.

  • have you checked the ferns for catapillars etc as it could be something on the plant causing the allergy?

    You are correct, it is the spores that can cause an allergic reaction, although I can not find any links I remember a health warning regarding bracken, same family

    The only solution I can suggest is stop him sticking his nose in, or remove from garden

    IMO the best option is to teach him that not all plants are good for you, and some, as in his case, ferns, and that deadly nightshade, laburnum, foxglove, etc are best avoided and never eaten

    not normaly, but this was bumps and not like a sting but thank you

    Thank you, feel sure this was the problem and he is fine now, we do try to stop them eating plants or sticking his nose in maybe this has taught him a lesson:rotfl:
    i have found a list from the dogs trust about plants and whist i new quite a few was surprised at the list .
