Switching electricity..what went wrong?

Our Gas has always been supplied by British Gas and Electricity by Southern electric; we were a couple of dinosaurs who had never changed supplier.

Earlier in the year we finally looked at a comparison site and switched electricity to British Gas as for this area it was the second best (also only meant changing one of them)
We have just had a bill which on enquiry does not say we are in credit but that we are £220 in DEBT to them!!! We pay £61 per month by DD (southern electric were putting it up to £70) so this means a shortfall per month of £27.50 (8 months) and we are not even through the coldest/darkest period yet.

What to do next? If you have read one of my other threads you will see we seem to Haemmoragh(?) electricity anyway. I truly wish we had never switched in the first place.

Is it estimated or to an actual reading? Also when BG started supplying was that to an estimate or actual read as well? Finally have you checked you are registered on the click energy tariff?
  • Thanks for the thoughts; the readings when we changed were actual and we paid the small outstanding balance (£30ish) off to Southern Electric. The readings we have given to BG are now actual, and what is the click energy tariff?

British Gas's standard rates are some of the most expensive for gas and for electricity. The cheap tariff that came up on the switching site would have been the online only no frills tariff, click energy, which is substantially cheaper.
