EDF have ended my Online S@ver Version 6!

Just got a letter this morning telling me that EDF are withdrawing my tariff and switching me to their Standard one. No prizes for guessing that the standard one is about 30% dearer. I needless to say am furious particularly as I went through exactly the same farce last September with NPower and moved to EDF as a result.

I have tried to phone them only to be told that their computers are down for maintenance and to ring back next week. Whatever happened to customer service in the Utilities market? I am sick and tired of their business practices which seem designed to get you in as a customer and then rip you off whilst hoping you dpn't notice.

Does anyone know if I am still tied to my contract with them now they have effectively withdrawn from it at their end? If not I will be switching to someone else, I WILL NOT continue to deal with a company who thinks they can just tear up their agreement with me when it suits them.

Any "special" tariff you sign up for will have an expiry date or will have terms that protect the supplier so that they can cancel the tariff, otherwise you could sign up for a tariff and be paying the same price for as long as you like, regardless of increases in the market price.

No doubt your initial contract will have been honoured, but now it has expired so they are within their rights to withdraw the deal or cancel it all together.

To be fair, all companies will do this, and the best thing you can do is use the comparison sites to switch to the best available tariff.

I'll have to look back through the paperwork but an pretty sure the initial contract was for longer than 10 months. I shall search the comparison sites and if I find a better deal, which I almost certainly will since the standard tariffs are rarely the cheapest, I will move company. I am just cross at having to go through the comparison process again so soon when my understanding was that I had signed up for at least a year.

I only signed up back via Sainsbury's back in September just when EDF were trying to close the sign ups of online 6 and force online 7 only.. Think it was up to end of June 2011 but if they are cancelling the tariff I would like to know when I can start the switching process....looks like a move back to SPower

I believe that, if they receive the switch request PRIOR to the end of the deal period (i.e. End June) you will be charged an early termination charge.

At least they notified you. Mine ended last August and they didn't. Kept plan name on bill the same, but charged me standard tariff.

    I had the letter well

Does not mention termination fees on the back ,just says let them know within 20 working days if you wish to terminate the contract and move providor

Wonder if they hit us with a charge.

British Gas look cheaper for me at the moment

I won't be able to move to another tariff before 1/6/11 due to the time I've been on it. At least judicial reporting to EDF that I want to move supplier will allow me extra leeway past that time as some providers aren't the quickest at switching.
