we have had a natwest step account for 3 years and recently asked for an upgrade to a current account and was declined,we asked why and was told it was our credit scoring so we got an online report, there was nothing against us,so we got a print out and took it to the bank, the manager said he had done all he could but we still coundnt have one,i spoke to the lending department(they make the decission)they told us that the stpe account is more than adaqut for our needs!!!!!!(i thought that would be up to ourselves)we have at least £1700 going in every month and never had a nasty letter.i explained that some shops not not accept solo and having a switch card would be easier. My son(who is 18)went into our main branch natwest asked for an upgrade ,they upgraded his account to the gold plus and was given an overdraught of £300 and he is only an apprentice on£80 a week!!!!.we have no late payments against us,18 years ago we has ccjs against us and had our house repossesed(we learnt a very hard lesson)but like a said that was 18 years ago,we have got credit cards, and mobile phones on contract. The bank manager said that because we are council tenants that will go against us,why??We want to try to go to another bank, but if they say no,the more we try the more searches we have against us and the more likely we are to be turned down so what do you do for the best? has anyone else had the same problem and could give us some advice, thanks:mad:

Actions speak louder than words....take your custom elsewhere. I'm sure another bank would welcome 1.7k coming into one of their accounts.
It is bizarre because i've gold an advantage gold account with 2.5k overdraft and don't put as much money in as you. I also have a spare account that i hardly use and that is a current plus account with a Maestro card. Personally i've only got good things to say about Natwest0 -
one thing to bare in mind is exactly why do you want to upgrade the account. if the bank covert to ad gold, you will pay a monthly £12 fee!
it does seem very odd that the bank wont covert it, but i must say that i beleive , from what you have said, that the manager has tried his best as he will get big sales points for getting you an ad gold acct.
i wouls suggest to try other banks first, see what they offer before closing your acct down.0 -
thanks for your advice,we are now thinking about going else were, fingers crossed we dont get the same hastle0

sorry to be pernickity but can you please use paragraphs in the future?
what you wrote there is very difficult to read and if it was easier to read then more people may read it! leading to more advice!A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining and wants it back the minute it begins to rain.0 -
Natwest aren't very good at times, because of a similar situation to you, we are thinking of going elsewhere.
My husband has 1 CCJ, paid off, and some defaults, he is in a DMP. I have a good credit history and have a normal student acc with Natwest but they won't give us a current acc in joint names, nor will anyone else though...
We pay in over £2.5k per month and we are getting no benefit from Natwest.
You could try writing to their customer relations and seeing if they can assist you, especially if you say you will walk away to a competitor.£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450
