    That's still straying off-topic however Puddy. The question asked hasn't been given proper consideration. Has no-one considered that perhaps the parents have other options, like a second home in the sun or a nice pension plan? What I'm trying to say is that it isn't our position here to make smart comments when someone asks a question. We don't know all the facts so can't make an informed opinion. Why does the atmoshere start to feel like the local British Legion where a young person gets picked on becaused it's his forst time in the club and he's sat in the "wrong seat".

    It's not a question of judging people.

    Equity release via borrowing is inadvisable for a couple in their late 50s as they are quite likely to live another 25 years and the cost will be horrendous.
