Hi, i have just been informed that you dont get clubcard points unless its at a tesco store dedicated petrol station, people like myself whos been going to the express stores dont get points.
I've written to complain but this is a major con in my opinion, they say its because they are esso stations but not after they have rebranded everything your lucky if you see an esso sign on there.
I for one will not be using them again. Never noticed i didnt even get the points as we have 4 cars and thats about £100 of petrol a week with shopping on top.

This has always been the case at Tesco express, there should be signs up at the checkouts0

this is something that i dont get, ive asked at my express why i cant use my card for petrol and was told its to do with the petrol being from esso, but i use my CC at the petrol store thats at the supermarket with no problems,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

I think its a joke, i cant see any signs and if there are they must be so small and hidden away. They should just call them esso stations if you cant get points0

I've used a Tesco Express in an Esso garage in Avely Essex several times over the past 5 or so years and they've always had a sign on each till explaining Clubcard point sare not available on any fuels bought.0

what i dont understand is surely the express get the same petrol from the same company as the petrol station attached to the store, so whats the differenceNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

ok then but why the difference, why call it a tesco express when you cant even use your tesco clubcard thereNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
It's not - the Express stores are merely shops and rented cashiers for Esso - esso let tesco use the land for their shop in exchange for tesco taking the money for their petrol.
It's not really a con - Remember clubcard points are FREE, tesco are not obliged to give free things away!
It's annoying that you don't get points at express stores, but complaining's a bit pointless if that's the rule!0 -
All Express / Esso stores 'should' have signs either on the pumps or instore stating that Points are not supplied on Esso fuel. I have visited a lot of Tesco Express sites in Scotland and only found one which didnt. It is also stated in the Tesco Clubcard T&C's and on all Tesco CC Vouchers amongst the section where it lists where CC points arent awarded . eg Tobacco, Baby Formula etc. You will still get Tesco points on all purchases in the store, Green Points etc.
The Sites are a joint venture between Esso and Tesco, with the Express part almost working like a Franchise agreement, but not quite. Tesco supply the store, Esso the fuel. Its quite clever in a way - can you imagine the uproar in the current climate if all the Express stores were Tesco branded petrol - the media and public would go spare. But because its Esso, no one bats an eyelid. Standalone Esso sites would not attract anywhere near the level of business they do with a Tesco bolted on. So its a two way benefit - Tesco expand and so do Esso.
This is exactly the same policy as was / is found at other split sites for the past decade -
Shell / Sainsbury Local (No Nectar Points on Fuel. No Shell Pluspoints on Sainsbury Purchases)
BP / M&S (No Nectar Points on M&S Items)
BP / Safeway (No Nectar Points on Safeway Items)
The other thing with Express stores is you cant get cashback I am told and they can't do Tesco Personal Finance transactions either.0
