used stamps

a while ago there was a box in my local tesco collecting used stamps for charity so i started saving mine but by the time i had a reasonable amount the box dissappeared and i haven't the heart to throw them away, any ideas of where i might find another such box or where i can send them to?

I dug out this old thread for you that should answer your questions :-) I remembered it becuase I posted on there saying that people could send used stamps to donate to the oncology unit that has been treating my friend's mum :-)

i believe they sell them to collectors and thus make money, good way to recycle and helps charities raise money from something that would otherwise be thrown away

Save your stamps for albatrosses
A big thank you to everyone who has pledged their support to our 'Save the Albatross' appeal, which has so far raised more than £650,000.

You can help us raise even more by sending us the used stamps from your post, which we can sell.

If possible, please put UK and foreign stamps in separate, labelled envelopes. You don't have to steam the stamp from the envelope, just tear off the corner with the stamp and send it in.

We raise £1.50 per kg for UK stamps and £12.50 per kg for foreign stamps. Last year we raised almost £3,000 for the RSPB's funds, so thanks to those who have sent stamps in the past.

If you have a large number of stamps, the most economical way for you to get them to us, is to combine delivering them with a great day out to one of our nature reserves. You can see some fabulous birds, enjoy the countryside and help the albatross all in one go! See the list on the right of our reserve visitor centres across the UK which will take stamps for you.

Alternatively, you can post your stamps. Send yours to: RSPB Stamps, PO Box 6198, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire LU7 9XT. Please do not include any other correspondence.

Always worth having a pot at work if there isnt one already. I live in a hostel where all the post goes to one main area, and residents collect from there. Think I'll ask if we can have a small pot there for used stamps.

thanks, I will now save all my stamps for the save the albatross. i was in Antarctica a few years ago and there were lots of illegal fishing boats using very long lines. the albatrosses see the fish in the water and dive for them and are caught on the hooks and die. There are few if any patrol boats there to stop the fishing. QWe saw boats with Japanese and Romanian flags and we reported them, but of course by the time the coastguard gets there several days later the boats have moved on. So, please do send your used stamps to the RSPB.
