You could use an electric detail sander, but you'll need a good mask. I imagine the nasty stuff in the paint would be worse than the chemical stripper!Shrinking my mortgage!

Its going to be hard work whatever but heat is usually the best way I think, should peel up and fall off fairly easy.
I wouldnt try to grind it off cold, either way try and do it outside as you dont want to be inhaling it0 -

ive been using a heat gun to take off the years of built up 7 layers of gloss on my pine internal doors. i was hard work but once it was done a good sanding and some sugar soap and they looked really good.....ive done the same on my skirting boards ready for my new carpets0
