    You could use an electric detail sander, but you'll need a good mask. I imagine the nasty stuff in the paint would be worse than the chemical stripper!

    Its going to be hard work whatever but heat is usually the best way I think, should peel up and fall off fairly easy.
    I wouldnt try to grind it off cold, either way try and do it outside as you dont want to be inhaling it

    Heat gun and sand off any scorch marks.

    Especially if it is old paint that contains lead.
  • ive been using a heat gun to take off the years of built up 7 layers of gloss on my pine internal doors. i was hard work but once it was done a good sanding and some sugar soap and they looked really good.....ive done the same on my skirting boards ready for my new carpets
