Work from home - best electricity tariff

Hi
I hope someone out there might be able to help me.

I have recently moved house and am on the standard EDF tariff for the moment. However, I am looking at which is the best tariff to
move to - either EDF or another company.

I am aware that online and direct debit is best, so I'm happy with both of those options, whichever company i choose.

However, I wasnt sure if I should go with an Economy 7 or Economy 10 option, as I work from home. I really only use my laptop during the day, and hardly have any lights on or the TV, stereo etc.

I wasnt sure if the benefits of Economy 7 or 10 would be overshadowed by the use of the laptop in the day at premium rates.

If anyone can help with some advice, i'd really appreciate it!

Extra information if it helps:
  • I live in the South West
  • I have a night storage heater
  • I am on electricity only

Many thanks in advance
matt

What sort of heating do you use in the winter? It's heating that determines whether economy 7 is worth it.

I didn't see the bottom bit of your post. Did I just miss it or was it added after I'd read it I wonder.

Assuming you dont have an electric shower and would use washing machine/dish washer overnight then E7 is likely to be cheaper because you have electric heating. The problem is until you start seeing you consumption pattern (day v night) you wont really know.

  • thanks for both of your replies.

t0rt0ise.... its elecricity only, but to be honest it doesnt require much heating as the flat is really well insulated and is always warm

spiro.... it is an electric shower, and i normally do the washing in afternoon.

In that case change you habits and do the washing overnight during the off peak time.
