  • From the male perspective................. (I am in my fifties and greyhaired)

I find that a nicely turned out, smartly dressed woman works for me everytime. Lots of makeup is a turn off, as is a large "slash" of inappropriate lippy. Baggy "hide the rolls of fat" clothing is a no-no as well.

So........Dress in stuff that fits, of appropriate colour for your complexion, doesn't make you look like Mutton dressed as Lamb, smell of soap and water (or a faint hint of smelly) and have clean combed hair (To the poster above I love Grey Hair - It shows the confidence of the owner and can be really sexy too) If you make an effort then it shows and that in itelf is attractive, the confidence will shine through any imperfections you think you may have and you will put out the right signals.

Stop worrying too much about what is on the outside and just be a nice person. Let whats inside do your beauty treatment for you.

  • I get my hair coloured at the local college, which charges £40 for a one year membership (August - June). This covers colouring cutting, conditioning, blow-drying, etc. and as many times as you want throughout the year. I only use it for the colouring service (about 4 times per year) and an occasional condition and blow-dry when I'm going somewhere special. I prefer to use my hairdresser for cutting, but that is a personal thing. If I used my own hairdresser for the colouring it would cost over £65 per time.
  • Grey hair is only ever unattractive if it is on a mop of limp lacklustre locks, mixed in with highlights/lowlights, on the ends, with the roots grey.

I have embraced my greying hair, and accepted that I would only be putting off the inevitable if I tried to dye it.

I had a bad experience in my youth, when a mood took me to grow a beard, this was a multitude of grey, black, blonde, mousy, and plenty of ginger hair thrown in. I tried dying this to my natural mousy shades, only to turn the lot ginger, it was needless to say the only time I have ever bothered to grow the facial fuzz.

I would take one of two stances tanith, either use the advise from the show last night and only use a semi permanent non amonia dye, or accept that its grey and get a good haircut that suits your face. I think the problem with most haircuts is that some look good on you and some don't, the difference is in the experience of the hairdresser.
    I had a plan..........its here somewhere.

Get your head down to a decent hairdresser and have a short cut that suits your face, if people are only interested in the length of your hair then they are shallow and not worth knowing - Rub it out and start again.

On a similar vein my ex made a right pigs ear of her hair. The final straw (literally) was when she was asked how she managed to die her roots brown :rotfl: I talked her into a very short "Urchin" cut until the damage was undone. It was only afterwards that she admitted it wasn't actually that bad - But she did get chatted up by some rather masculine ladies!:D

I agree with NEEDMONEY, they didn't make that lady look her best last night. She was wanting to look more feminine, but the make up was too harsh and her hair was too dark and the style too severe. Without wanting to be cruel, she actually looked like a man, dressed like a woman, only because of the way she was styled. Her face looked softer before! her hair colour suited her better before. THEY DON'T ALWAYS GET IT RIGHT!

Just google "facial exercises" . You'd be surprised at their effectiveness. Facial muscles relax over the years and gravity does its work until peeps get jowls, drooping chins and cheeks, slack eyelids etc.

Just as the muscles and skin of the rest of our body can be strengthened, lifted and toned, so can those of the face.

There is a lot of material on this, all well worth reading.

    :)

I love that programme but didnt see this weeks. In some of those type of programmes you dont really see the amount of make up that is used. A freind went for one of those very expensive makeover portraits. Although the end photo was absolutely stunning she said the amount of stuff they put on her face to acheive it was laughable. I would love to look younger than I do and if i had loads of surplus dosh then I think I would maybe have a face lift but as I havent I have to live with the saginess and wrinkles
  • I've been sort of trying to do this over the past couple of months - I realised I'd put on 2 stone since March (!!) and was dressing in baggy cover-ups to hide it, so started exercising and following WeightWatchers eating patterns at the beginning of October.

I'd already got the WW books from being a member a few years back, so that was free, and I picked up the 3 Nell McAndrew workout DVDs cheaply on Amazon. The first time I tried one of the DVDs, I could JUST about get through the warm up and 4 minutes of the main section!

Two months later, I've only lost 8lbs but the tape measure is showing a dramatic improvement - I've lost nearly 3" off my waist and hips, 2" off my chest and 1.5" off my arms and thunder thighs. My tummy overhang has nearly vanished completely, everything's a lot firmer and I'm so much fitter - I went jogging in the local park earlier this week and for the first time in my life managed to jog a mile without stopping. Our local pool is offering swimming for £1.50 a session in December, so OH and I have been twice this week and each time I've swum a third of a mile.

I'm lucky in that I've got naturally fairly good skin, so my only beauty routine is a bit of Olay moisturiser after a bath or swimming. I don't wear make-up and I never blow-dry my hair, which helps it stay in good condition.

I'm 31 and I can honestly say I've never felt healthier or looked better in my life! I'm not quite back into my size 12 jeans yet, but now I know it's only a matter of time instead of looking wistfully at them and thinking 'someday...'

I always stand under a cold shower ( yes even at this time of year) after washing. I stand under it for as long as I can hack! It shines the hair and livens the skin.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
