Fermanagh, live in it, visit it, love it, hate it?
For anyone in the above categories, we would really appreciate your comments on what sort of tourist activities are missing, and what sort of things people like to do when they are on holiday in NI.
Just doing a little bit of market research, so thanks in advance for any replies!
No prizes for anyone who mentions that the Sun is often missing in Fermanagh!

I visit Fermanagh.
I feel pretty well catered for as my favourite place to go is the Share Centre. It provides outdoor activities, mostly water based. It also has an indoor pool and gym facility. The only complaint I have about the area is the high cost of fuel, which is the highest I've encountered anywhere.0 -
Share Centre is very close to border and fuel used to be a lot cheaper in the south, any member of staff will direct you to the nearest garage!
We moved a couple of years ago, so it might have changed, but agree fuel is generally more expensive in Fermanagh than in Belfast!DJWW - cos we won't let it!0 -
I have friends who live in Fermanagh and they are always complaining about how much more expensive eating out is compared with other parts of NI. So perhaps more value-for-money restaurants.0

I live in Fermanagh and LOVE it:beer: I love the fact that beautiful Florencecourt House, Castlecoole, Marble Arch Caves The Lakes etc are on our doorstep. The weather isnt too bad-honest!! However I do feel we are hard done by at times:( Fuel is very high here but thankfully I only live 8 miles from the border & fill up alot cheaper over there. Eating out is expensive but alot of places are doing quite a few deals at min. I really feel for the kids here. There is little or nothing for them to do & anything they can do is really expensive. For example a recent trip to see a film in cinema for myself & 2 kids was £18:eek: I had been in Coleraine week before & brought them to cinema up-there same thing was £12:) & it wasnt a special offer or anything! Last summer Asda were doing a special offer on meat. It was £8per Kg here but asda in Coleraine were only £5per Kg for exact same meat, size & offer week etc!
All that aside I wouldnt live anywhere else though:T0 -
We ate in Mandarin Palace last week, and it was excellent quality and excellent value for money £5.99 for an all you can eat buffet lunch!
Thanks Saucepan head, your post is very helpful, and highlights some of the issues we were thinking about!
The shopping prices aren't just restricted to Asda though, clothes shops definitely cheaper in Belfast and way better sales/reductions. When we were in Enniskillen last week there were still a huge number of Southern Registered cars in the carparks, so I guess the Euro spend is still keeping prices higher thereDJWW - cos we won't let it!0 -
Yeah ate in Mandarin Palace just after it opened bout 2 months ago & its great value for money-more of this type of place is deffo needed! The car parks are heaving with southeners especially at weekends!0

i live in fermanagh and hate it!! Unless you drive you cant go anywhere because the bus service is so bad and forget it if you need to travel with a pram. Seriously overpriced, £4.50 per child at the creche if you want to use the gym in the forum.
Castle island is great for the kids tho. Asda would be great if you can get in it without being attacked by southerners with severe trolly rage

Any sense of urgency

Seriously if Fermanagh people were any more laid back they would be horizontal  Its a great attitude when I'm there on day trips, but when I am trying to work with people from the region it drives me mad  they all remind me of that bunny from the Cadbury's Carmel advert of years back, sometimes I could joyfully throttle them
Having said that they are very nice warm hearted people, I just wish they would wake up a bit
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
we go to fermanagh a lot and the biggest thing I feel is missing is a clue about customer service.
Some places get it right but most miss it by a country mile .... still love a wee weekend in Kesh though :-)THESE ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS ……
..…JUST WAIT AND SEE0 -
There are a lot of things missing in Fermanagh- but i LOVE it.
Bus services to and from Enniskillen are non-existent from some areas (i hate buses anyhow!)
Unless you drive you are pretty much screwed!
Its difficult to get mobile phone coverage in certain areas. I remember driving a mate from Belfast around Belleek and he could not get over the poor mobile phone coverage. Some of us like hanging out of windows trying to get coverage!0
