I have my landline with Talk Talk-free weekend calls. Just got my bill and the weekday calls seemed really expensive. E mailed them and eventually found out that each weekday call has a 10.2p connection charge. I was unaware of this-what I would like to know is, is it a standard practice? I use 0808 1703 703, before calling but it doesnt seem to be working.
Many thanks.

A connection fee is now standard practice with the majority of landline tariffs. There are a few legacy tariffs still available which don't have a connection fee such as CallerPlus from The Phone Co-op, but there are very few of these still around. It is amazing that such an old tariff from 2001 actually looks good value for a fairly light user - no connection fee and 1p+VAT minimum call charge are rare things these days!

Telesave works with a Talktalk landline via 0800 0662266 for 1.5p/min daytime landlines with no connection fee (18185 is 1p plus a 5p connection fee, so Telesave is actually just as good/better for calls 10 minutes and under). Downside is you need to topup £10 (it's prepay) - but you can get unused credit refunded back if you ditch Telesave. I've used them for years.

Hope this is of some help.
