Hi
i am unable to connect to the internet. have tried BT who say it is problem with the pc and they are correct. have tried to system restore but get a message at the end of the process that the computer could not be restored to the restore point. have sought help from BT Home IT support and went through checking the ethernet cable, unplugging and plugging, etc. nothing works.
other computer on wireless network works. printer doesnt.

not much to go on, how is it connected, direct to a router with ethernet?
which operating system
can you ping www.google.com from the cmd prompt
have you had a virus recently
are the proxy settings in your browser correct (usually nothing)
is the network card working in device manager?!!

if you are not able to view web pages it doesn't mean your broadband connection is down?
What type of router are you using? Which lights are solid? which lights are flashing? are there any lights on the router that are different colour or out of place? if not and everything seems normal then it's a strong possibility that the problem is with your pc.
Are you connecting to the router wired or wirelessly? connect with a wire if your currently wireless. If the web page cannot be displayed click diagnose connection issues to give you some clues as to what may be wrong. Try your PC elsewhere to see if it actually does work.
You can always ring BT back and speak to someone else for a 2nd opinion or a better explanation if your not happy. :beer:0
