Unable to pay AmEx CC bill via Barclays online banking

Logged on to online banking to pay my AmEx Nectar CC but it didn't show in the drop down list AmEx card types. I did both a search and manual entry but only got a message saying that the account name couldn't be found?
Anyone else experienced the same with this or other AmEx CCs?
I know that I can pay via DD or the AmEx website, but just want to know if this card type cannot be serviced via Barclays online acct.
Thanks

Well their account details are...
Sort Code 30-00-00
A/c Number 00200476
use your amex card number as the reference
Try sending a small amount first to see if it credits your account before sending the full balance. No reason why it shouldn't work though.0 -

Anyways, I will do as suggested and make a small payment. But what if it vanishes into the thin? How do I recover?0 -
Suggest you ring customer services first to confirm the bank details before you do - just to be on the safe side (Or send a message via online services for free
). Cust. Services number is on the back of the card. Easier to do this than chase it after.
However if you do not currently pay by direct debit, and receive paper statements, you will have a GIRO remittance advice slip on your statement - this will have the bank a/c number printed, so you can also find the relevant details there.

Just use the sort code and account number from your statement.
All it means is that Barclays' website probably isn't up to date with the correct account details. As long as you use those that are on your statement then you'll be fine.0 -
Thanks all. Will wait for my first statement for the details.
Probably best to set up a DD at some point so it's off my mind. Only thing is AmEx say payment will be taken up to 8 days from statement due date, and as I like to shift most of my money into savings, this is a bit inconvenient. Still, no matter...0 -
Just as a side issue - I use an AMEX card all the time for my business, and I think it's great. The only downside is that it's quite expensive for retailers, so not everybody takes it. The points are great though - I get 2 points for every £ spent - and you can transfer the points to other programmes like Hilton, Virgin Atlantic etc.
Anyway - I think that the card you have is serviced by American Express but doesn't come with any of the benefits - you get nectar points of course, but in my experience AMEX points are much more valuable in real terms. My wife has a lloyds AMEX card which collects nectar points, but when I spoke to American Express about it they said only processed the transactions, not actually serviced the card.
This also might be why Barclays don't list it on their system.
I also have Barclays online banking, and the list you refer to is only a list of 'default' account numbers which Barclays offer you to save you the time of typing in the account (or searching around for it.) Most of the people I pay are not on the list, but as long as you have the sort code, account number and reference, you'll be fine.
Hope this helps!0 -
