PPI - Ford Credit

I've been reading here for an hour or so as I try to find out whether I have a PPI claim, who with and how I go about doing it. I've learned some bits but would appreciate some help and advice, or confirmation of what I've read.
My situation: I bought a car in 1999, from a dealer, with finance from Ford Credit arranged through the dealer. I have my copy of the agreement with FC which shows the PPI but no account number. Ford Credit do not hold records from that long ago to give me the account number. I can see some of the repayments on line on my bank account (the last few payments are just within the period I can see on-line). The dealer is no longer there although I believe they have branches elsewhere in the country.
From reading here, I believe my first port of call is the dealer and not Ford Credit. Can any one confirm this or tell me I'm wrong?
Instead of the organisation that sold the loan it can be the organisation that sold the insurance I should claim against. This is contrary to what I've said above so again, can someone confirm or otherwise?
I'm sure I'll have more questions but any help with these to start would be appreciated.

Hi there
To what I am aware of, that is correct what you have stated, you pursue the dealer/head office, unless someone else knows different, but if you've not got the account number, when making a reclaim by completing the reclaim quesitonnaire - step 3 below link, enclose a "copy only" of your agreement (never send the originals).
They may be able to dig out your details this way.

I think you will have problems with this.
There will be no jurisdiction for FOS from something that long ago as the GISC code did not exist.
That means taking them to court to prove that they acted not simply unfairly but unlawfully.
You will have an uphill battle.0 -
Thanks for the responses.
magpiecottage - Martin's guide seems to indicate that if I am refused in the first place the FOS may refer me to another professional body
Is this likely to be an avenue worth exploring in my case? (I see you have posted recently on the thread related to non FOS claims)0 -

As regards the FLA, they have not really done a lot in the past to help anyone (a complete waste of a firm I would say!!) although ONE person has posted that they have helped recently. Maybe worth a complaint.
I once complained to them and filled out their online form and never even got an acknowledgement to it.0 -

If the loan was settled over six years ago, they will no longer hold any details. Even if you provide a copy of your agreement, it will have a second signature requesting the PPI: this will affirm that you have read the policy details and have understood what you have signed for. You will also have received a policy document at the onset of the agreement which will have advised how you could cancel the PPI prior to making any payment. As with all car loans , this will have been a monthly paid PPI, paid alongside your instalments. If all the paperwork is correct, Ford Credit cannot have known you were mis-sold the policy- you'd have to come up with solid proof which would involve the car dealer0 -

I've just checked the agrement and you're correct, there is a second signature at the PPI section. I did notice this time that there's a line there saying the PPI is underwritten by Norwich Union. Is there any claim against them or should I just give up on this one?0 -
I was wondering if someone could advise the next best course of action to take. I had 3 cars on finance with Ford credit from 1999-2005 and I'm not sure if I had PPI on any of them as don't hold any information. I did write to Ford Credit using the template letter on here requesting my original loan information, they wrote back ad said they do not hold any details for me! Should I write directly to the dealership? Any advise would be really helpful :j
On a plus note, I have already been successful with Welcome finance £1503 and just had a cheque from Lloyds £497 and still have another 11 companies in the pipeline.0 -
Should I write directly to the dealership?
Yes. They are the ones liable for the sale. However, do be aware that most dealers were not regulated until January 2005. So, even if they have details, they do not need to consider complaints on pre Jan 2005 sales.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

May I ask if you have had any joy with Ford Credit. Whilst moving house I've found my old Ford Credit agreement from 2007 and was wondering if it was worth trying to claim back the ppi.0 -
Dear mandylou1968,
I was wondering if you progressed with this? I to got a car on ford Credit in 2007 also. I was told that the PPI was an requirement to get the car finance, which of course was not true but I believed the car sales guy.
Did you get anywhere with your claim and what action did you take?
Also, can you please let me know what the PPI percentage was on your loan?
Unfortunately I don't have the agreement any more but have a print out of all payments
Any help would be great!
