Hi can anyone help me re insurance for Croatia.
We are planning a road trip through Europe including driving down Croatia then crossing to Italy to continue the holiday.
My policy covers me for 60 days in the EU automatically.
I spoke to my insurance company today to get extra cover for Croatia to be told that they will not cover me “but I can buy insurance cover when I cross the border” has anyone any experience of this.?
I don’t feel comfortable with this.
Has any one any experience of buying cover at the border.?
Does anyone have any advice as to what we should do.?
Thanks for you help.
David

Hi David.
Be careful driving in Croatia is a minefield if you hire a vehicle from one of the many agencies. I hired a vehicle with Economy Care Hire and paid for full coverage and I mean FULL. Whilst the car was parked on the street in a pay and display bay my hire vehicle was damaged. I reported this to the local police on my return who understanding there was no injury to any humans was not bothered and informed that a report was not necessary. On returning the vehicle and reporting the incident to the hire company they issued me with a bill for the damage. Even though I had followed the policy terms and conditions.

If you hire a car in EU and want to drive it into Croatia some car brokers won't let you drive the car out of the EU, so I hired a car direct from the car hire company and they were OK with me driving into Croatia.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Be also very careful on what your insurance company classes as the EU.
Check the smallprint as being a fully paid up member of the European Union does not necessarily mean your insurance company includes them as being part of the EU.0
