Skype help please

Hi I wouldn't mind getting skype but I only use a pre paid dongle would this use up my allowance quickly?

    Depends what your allowance is how often and for how long you do video calls using skype, so probably yes.
    You can use skype for voice calls (uses less bandwidth) and messaging (uses very little bandwidth)

    Skype uses 64kbits/s on voice calls, much more on video calls, but it also uses a silence suppression mechanism, so when you're not gassing, traffic stops.

    Statistically, we are silent for one third of the time during a voice call. Obviously that's rarely true for women who talk incessantly whether anyone is listening or not.

    However, if us blokes are on the blower for 60 minutes then VoIP silence suppression will spare us 40 minutes of traffic, meaning that in a hour of Skyping, we will transfer..

    64kbps * (60 * 60 * 1/3) = ~10MB of data
