The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)
  • I'd email asking her to cancel your bid or else you'll report her.

It'll look better than you retracting.

    I'd definetly report her.

Louise1234 - some people do make genuine mistakes - its easy to do so I don't think its fair to report them just yet unless the listing has not been changed. But you are right I would email to ask them to cancel the bid and if not then retract it.
  • I see your point, lots of people make genuine mistakes, but they would offer to cancel bids wouldn't they, as it was their fault. Most listings don't receive bids for a day or so, so the seller had plenty of time to change listing before anyone bid. It was just that the way the OP said

"yet i then got email telling me there was infact £2 post and packing and she really must get round to taking the free post and packing bit out...."

It does sound like the seller was being dodgy - hoping once people had bid they would not retract. The phrase really get round to implies the seller has been selling for quite a while... My personal opinion is that the seller is trying to catch out people. I'd check how much they have sold previously 'with free P&P' and I would be inclined to report them.
  • Have you asked the seller to cancel your bid? I would point out that you bid on their auction on the understanding that it was free P+P. I would also state that you are aware of eBay's rules and sellers aren't allowed to charge addidtional P+P if they have already stated that its free. Tell them that if they don't cancel your bid before the auction ends then you will be left no choice but to report them to eBay.

Maybe its a bit of sellers remorse. Maybe the seller is panicking as they aren't getting the price they thought they would.

Personally if I was the seller I would have pulled the auction

I know it is quite a bit after the fact but i believe you only have 12 hours after you make a bid to retract it, and you can only retract it under certain circumstances.

But in this case it is a good one, seller mis-describes!

You can retract a bid at any point unless there are less than 12 hours remaining on the auction.

It is easy to retract a bid and whilst your bid retractions do show on your feedback page I can't see any problem at all with having a small number, and anyway they only show for 6 months. Also, who bothers checking feedback retractions on their buyers?

If you end up winning the auction then whatever happens the seller is able to leave you negative feedback, it is in your interest to pull your own bid if at all possible.
