Confused with comparison websites.

I'm fed up keying in my details on a load of comparison sites only to find they only want me to change supplier.........ANY supplier will do; they'll get their ruddy commission.:(
Keyed in Br Gas as my supplier and Southern Electric came out cheaper. Reversed those details, without changing any other detail, and Br Gas came out tops. Tried this on 4 sites , all with the same result.
I need a website that simply sets out each supplier's price per kwhs of gas & elecricity................nothing more, nothing less.
Once I have found the two cheapest in my area, I then need to look for a discount, which is not means tested, for senior, disabled customers.
If anyone has better ideas on how to get value for money from energy suppliers, I'd sure like to hear from you.
Thx for reading my post.

Did you put in your annual kWh consumption-or did you use monthly DD amounts? Only the former will give accurate results. Using monthly DD amounts means that the system make its own assumptions about your actual usage.
You're asking to reinvent the wheel. All the big 6 suppliers have websites which set out their kWh rates, as do all the comp sites if you click on the 'more info' link against the tariff results. Anyway, because of the complexities of the tariff structures, a simple list of kWh prices would not reflect your actual bills (eg DD discounts, loyalty bonuses, standing charges, 2 -tier billing, etc etc).
There are no discounts for senior citizens, or disabled citizens-though the big companies all have some kind of social tariffs, which you may or may not qualify for.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I don't know which site you're using but if I put my current details into a site, it comes up as the cheapest option.0

Thx macman,:T
Ok will get my bills out and try again.
So where do I check for social discounts, then?0 -
Thx for replying, VoilaLass.
Ok, I didn't key in my details as I was merely trying to find generally which supplier charges the lowest rate per kwhs. It used to be that the lowest rate provider was the cheapest overall :mad:0 -

That makes more sense. Suppliers usually have two levels of charging e.g. 17p per unit for the first 100 units then 5p thereafter (numbers made up) so it depends how much you use plus it depends which plan you're on, whether there's a standing charge etc. There are too many variables for one supplier to be the cheapest for everyone.0 -

Let the comparison sites do the work for you by giving your annual kWh usage. You'll go mad trying to compare those with standing charges and a single rate against those with no standing charge but a two tier charging system. Then there's the various discount schemes they have.
There are some suppliers offering special rates for pensioners. For example E.On have an Age UK online tariff. Rates appear to be the same as their other tariffs but they give a winter payment. I don't think the comparison sites take things like that into account.
I found it was better to let the comparison sites point me in the right direction then investigate the recommended suppliers in more detail personally. Just phoning or emailing them and seeing what sort of response you get is a fair indicator to me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I simply phoned my energy supplier and asked for a cheaper deal. This cut my DD by 7.5%, my new deal has no tie-in and is not available on uSwiz.

Victor2...thx for your advice. I take your point about the time it takes to research each supplier individually; this afternoon I've only managed 2 suppliers.
yes, I saw on another forum that customers over 60yrs were getting a discounted rate with some suppliers. I rang my supplier but their discounts are means-tested. Seems some suppliers only require you to be in receipt of Disabilty Living Allowance and be aged 60+.
I'll get to the bottom of it, thanks to all you kind folks here, but it's a tedious job.0 -
Why would you get a discount based on age only?No free lunch, and no free laptop
