I am with my baby's father I moved in to his property but he lost his job and has been looking for work ever since. He did sign on for a bit and was getting job seekers contribution, they said we could live on my maternity money. So when I filled out the working tax credit form I put he was getting job seekers and when it said how much I but 0.00 and sent it off they was giving us the working tax credit money then after a few months said oh no we ain't in titled to it you have to get job seekers income to get working tax credit so got a £700 bill to pay back.

So all we live on was my maternity money and the £58.00 a week on child benefit and working tax credit I get.

Also if I go bankrupt they can't take my partners stuff can they? As this debt isn't anything to do with him?

    Your partner's possessions are safe.

Realistically, yours will be, too, unless you have something of very high value.

They don't come around to your house and you don't have to submit a list of posessions. I guess there is some provision for checking up on people if there were any suspicions you were hiding anything but unless you got a picasso under the bed... :rotfl:
I believe you will need to declare his income -so they can check he is paying his fair share but that's about it I think.

I amy be wrong but I think he needs to make a joint claim for benefits for the family unit. In it he will declare your earnings. It isn't right that you are managing on so little. Use the link in previous posts to find out how much you should be getting as a family unit.

Post on the benefits board and find out if that is right. Sorry to keep going on about it, but it seems a very small amount to be expected to live off.
