hello.
i'm on Orange PAYG and recently updated to a Android phone so now use some internet on the phone.
im on the dolphin plan which means i get 100mb of data if i top up by £10.00
anyway, all seems to be working fine and i am aware of the T Mobile merger thing but today for the 1st time i was in an area that actually gave me a T Mobile signal.
in the signal strength logo area there was a small "R" which i assume meant "roaming"? is this correct, is that how it works?
also, when the T Mobile connection 1st came online i saw the data connection for a second said "3G", i only get "E" at home, but then the symbol disapeard all together and i got no data connection at all.
any ideas what happened?
finally, if i am on the T Mobile connection are my costs and freebies the same? free texts/data under my PAYG plan? i am pretty sure whilst under T Mobile coverage i have incurred a cost as i think my balance is lower but nothing is showing on my account as yet but it takes a while to update.
p.s i didnt make a call while in the "R" situation but did try to open a data connection.
thank you.

Have you called Orange and asked them?0

what a bizarre reply.
the same reply could be added to maybe 95% of any forum question surely? (but phoning the relevant company, not Orange
)
anyhoo, anyone else have any input.
i'll ring Orange if need be/as a last resort. i would prefer real life answers from real life users in the same situation as me.
thanks.0 -
They can advise you the best as if you do incur any charges they they will be refunded especially if they gave you duff advice. Your choice calling 150 would have taken up a few minutes of your time.0

AIUI the 'roaming' currently only works for voice and SMS not Data, so you briefly saw a data signal for T-Mobile coverage, but then the system worked out you're an Orange roaming customer and data capability disappeared...0

I think that you get charged what is in your contract regardless of whether you happen to be connected via the Orange or the T-Mobile network. The note I got about it was presenting it as a "you'll get the best signal available", which could be either network.
However, I've no idea about the relative performance of the networks, and I suppose it varies on location too.
(I'm not a data user.)0 -
On my old phone (I think) I could use data roaming on Orange, by checking a setting somewhere in the wireless and networks section. Might be worth you seeing if that's there, too.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
You'll roam between networks for voice (no cost) but at the moment there is no 3g or data roaming but there will be in the future.0

Hi pfpf,
You won't incur any additional charges whilst logging on to a T-Mobile mast, you are simply just using that mast to provide you coverage. All usage when connected to a T-Mobile mast is recorded and updated on your account the same way it would be whilst connected to an Orange mast.
Not too sure why the 3G symbol popped up and disappeared as at the moment its only 2G access whilst roaming on T-Mobile. It may have been the phone trying to connect via 3G first and switching back to 2G.
Hope this helped.

Although your 39 minute call may have been irritating it didn't cost you anything as a 150 call from an Orange contract phone is free.BunShopBandit wrote: »And would cost minutes === money. This is a money saving forum and community, perhaps you don't get that concept eh?
I found that out for sure in a few seconds using google which would also probably have answered the original question quicker than asking on a forum....0
