My LO is 12 mths and would easily drink 28-30 ozs of milk a day.

Wouldnt be giving them readybreak or petit filous yet either, both are high in sugar and weetabix/shreaded wheat and plain natural yogurt are much better.

nene he tends to still want fed every 3 hours whether it is food or a bottle i think this is where some of the problems are. at the moment there is no way he would entertain food when he wakes up, like pigpens dd he is a gremlin until he takes a bottle - in full hysterics. i have tried food first thing but it usually ends up spat all over me :( at the moment im happy enough to let him decide what he wants and when he wants it as it has worked for us so far, but with me going back to work i would like him in some sort of a routine.

edit to add, i agree about the baby jars i know they prob arent as good as making your own food etc - but i would never make the variety that you can get in the jars so i love them!

Can I ask why are you wanting to give him breakfast so late at 10am?

it doesnt necessarily have to be 10 but so far he wont entertain the thought of food before that time. if i gave him it any earlier i dont know how i would get him to wait from say 8.30 until 1pm for lunch, he tends to want food every 3 hours still

Mine has breakfast 9:30-10am because I have to get the others to school and don't have time before he school run.. she wakes about 7:30am.. has boob then I have to get the girls dressed and brushed.

I have done the same with every one of mine. I can see how his would work better with returning to work too.. :D

Some days she is lucky if she gets a nappy change before school!!

if his height and weight are that similar, I really wouldn't listen to a word the hv says.. he is obviously thriving..

Will he take a yoghurt/fruit puree after a savoury dinner? if his tummy is fuller he won't want as much milk and will go a bit longer. before feeling hungry again in theory!. I have found that in order for the milk to decrease the food has to increase first.. rather than the other way round.. mine are not good at reading the books the HV's read!

She clamps her jaws shut and won't even open her mouth for the spoon until she has had morning milk! but I want a drink when I first wake up.. not food!

Hi Dreambirdie - I agree with PP re the conflicting advice and Lauren please look into baby led weaning as in there it stresses the need for milk (formula or boob), at the end of the day he probably doesn't know that solid food will satisfy his hunger so that is why he is crying for his bottle (as he is hungry!). I do believe that milk feeds will naturally drop when he gets more filled up, but please don't push it.

I am bf mainly with a small formula top up for the night, but he still feeds 4 to 5 times a day (at 8 months) but I guess being bf it can be for thirst as well as hunger.

he loves the little cow and gate fruit purees so i try to give him them after dinner, its been a bit of hit and miss so far - sometimes he will eat it all but he still wants the 2 bottles before bed. thank u for all the replies so far, even just reading all the differing routines has made me feel a lot better about going with the flow about weaning, one step at a time. i think the HV had the idea that you jst clicked 2 fingers and the baby would be on solids all day, so thank you for making me feel a bit better!

MY Ds is 6 months old, and I think he is going to want milk forever :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Don't panic, I remember the same thing with DD, they get there eventually, and you don't see many teenagers taking bottles (of milk :D ) so it will come in good time ;)

I know this is an MSE forum but I find jars a godsend as she can have a variety of foods that would cost a hell of a lot more to buy separate ingredients. If you can afford them then keeps on them if you like :)
Firstly how you feed your baby is up to you :).
BUT, I just wanted to add that this is not strictly true ;). If mum and dad are having a healthy diet baby can try everything they have (within reason of course for their age), by simply pureeing some down. If baby likes it, then next time you have that puree a bit more and freeze it in little plastic tubs (very cheap!).
I did use some ready made stuff, like PigPen said for example if somewhere other than normal home.
Like I said it IS up to you but they are not the only way to try a variety of foods (and why are ALL the jars orange lol ?).

Value oats, milk, a little grated apple/pear, and maybe some chopped prune/apricot etc, cook as normal porridge, and then blend if needed for littlies! DS (nearly 4) was a breastfed baby and had this made with sometimes breastmilk, more often cows milk, and to this day loves his porridge. Can keep in fridge and freezes easily!!

To OP perhaps you need to have a couple of 'screaming' mornings but persevere with say half a bottle then onto the brekkie, eventually bubs will see how yummy and filling this is and look forward to it!
