Micro Scooter Advice please?

Options
Our two have had their nebulus scooters for over 18 months and especially over the 8 months they have been used a lot and have been the children's main mode of transport. However they were cheap and chearful £10 at Asda and i'm starting to notice the wear and tear on them, especially on my daughters. Considering the speeds they go on them, i'm frightened A&E isnt too far away.

So i've been thinking of upgrading and paying a bit more to last them. People keep recommending the Mini Micro Scooter, but i don't want that design as they can both glide on two wheels and use the back break easily. I've been looking at the next model up the Micro Scooter, which i think its similar to a standard 2 wheel inline model.

I'm assuming the handles do the steering unlike the mini micro which is what my two are used to. I'm also hoping the micro scooter has the same softer wheels and frame as the mini? As in comparision the nebulus scooters have been more rigid and the wheels "less giving". Would that be correct?

Has anyone bought one and what are you opinions please? For us they ride them everywhere now and have replaced the buggy, so now i'm considering a shopping trolley!!!!!!! I'm not looking at age ranges as our nebulus scooters said 5+ on the box, yet my two have been competently riding them since 2 and 3yrs, so that isn't a concern, thank goodness.

I'm putting this on the family board rather than i wanna buy as i think more like minded people would see it.

Thanks in advance.

I think the scooter you have posted would be very similar to the Nebulus one. If you are are looking at the Micro branded scooters the next model up is the Maxi Micro Scooter which also has three wheels but is for older children http://www.micro-scooters.co.uk/category/maxi-micro-scooter/

Actually, look at the aluminium scooters on that site, there are also some two wheeled ones.

Bailey, DS has been using the maxi micro scooter since last summer. It has a brake on the rear wheel which he managed to use quite quickly. We got ours from john lewis.

  • Lemoncurd, i think your right, i'm looking for something quieter, softer wheels and generally better quality. The micro sprite looks good too.

might have to look at ebay though as i need two.

my friend in RL thinks i should buy http://www.micro-scooters.co.uk/product/maxi-micro-green-tbar--limited-edition/

But seriously £200 on scooters sounds extortionate.

The three wheeled type your friend is recommending is a completely difference experience to they kind of scooter your children are used to. They are much more difficult to steer as the wheels don't move, you have to kind of use your body to lean it over to turn.

I would go with your choice, they're already used to two wheel scooting going to three would be going backwards IMO.

  • peachyprice, that's exactly what i thought, a backward step, but i didn't want to sound too showy off to my RL friends.

I'm thinking the micro sprite would be good and its folds up for the car.

DS1 had one of the original 2 wheel Micro scooters when he was 2 (11? years ago, when nobody had seen them), at that point the build quality of micro was far superior to the cheap ones he's had since that one was stolen. We did replace it with another original Micro model but were disappointed with the build quality, there were problems with the bearings and the brake, but after speaking with other people we decided that we had just been unlucky. When we came to get a scooter for DS2 we were very disappointed because they had changed the design. Whereas originally there were multiple settings for the handle height, there was only a single setting which meant the handlebars cannot be adjusted to a suitable height for a child. But it looks as if the Micro Sprite might be adjustable in the way you need.

The one you've linked to doesn't appear to be by "Micro" (the logo is distinctive and the prices higher LOL) but it does have the multiple height settings which you need with younger children. But, given that your two are 4 & 5?, I would think that their light weight would probably mean you'd get good service from this.

We got the Micro Sprite scooters for our boys a couple of years ago after getting through two cheap ones in a fairly short time. Have to say they were money very well spent.

The are so much better quality than the cheap ones.

The scooters get a lot of use and have stood up to it really well. Also you can easily get spare parts if you need them.

  • Thanks everyone, thats what i love about this site, helpful advice!

I'll sleep on it now, i've searched around for half hr looking at prices and the Micro website seems the best as free delivery, making it cheaper than ebay shops and others.

I don't think i'll go with the Maxi Micro (3 wheels) anymore but glad i considered it.
  • I guess my only complaint so far with the Micro Sprite is its only available in silver, so i would need to mark two of them with their school name tags. Ideally i'd prefer one in pink and the other green or blue.

Oh well, can't have everything in life.
  • Now i'm wondering how the JD Bug brand compares?

Anyone seen, tried or got one of these please?
