BT Compensation

HELP. We've had a fault on our line for 2 years since May 2009!! Finally it is fixed and BT have been so gracious as to offer £337 compensation?? (Despite announcing 71% profits this morning) How can that be when I've seen people being offered £100 plus for much shorter loss of service. They also admit this is a rare and exceptional case. How can I challenge this as they are saying they won't pay additional costs e.g the 4 months we kept paying internet provider whilst awaiting fix then having to organise mobile broadband dongle, etc.
I've asked them to put offer in writing whilst I take advice as I believe I should be entitled to more.
Anyone advise me on how to pursue this?
