Hi, for the past couple of weeks my laptop seems to be constantly doing something in the background thus making it run very slow, it's driving me mad!! Does anyone have any idea what could be going on please? AVG hasn't picked up anything dodgy.

That's not very fair
If I had any clue what I was doing I wouldn't have come on here asking for help. Perhaps you could enlighten me as to where I should start in order to try to fix the problem??

uninstall avg, install avast 6 free, full scan with malwarebytes and fix anything found before closing, post a hijackthis log. If it's XP - post installed ram figures along with commit charge figures from task manager, performance
