What happens to DLA for son if he leaves school at 16?

Genuine question....does my son's DLA payments end when he leaves school? Is it a benefit only whilst in f/t education? He wants to find 'a little job' locally (he's autistic) but I am not sure how that would affect his benefits. I, as his carer, have already lost Carer's Allowance as I earn £20 a week more than I am allowed!
It's pretty tight financially and I am loathed to encourage him to leave education if it means he loses his benefit, as he certainly won't be able to earn that kind of money in the types of jobs he could do.
Advice really appreciated.

Disability Living Allowance is paid for care and mobility needs, it doesn't matter if you're in education or work or neither

The only difference for you and your son will be at his 16 birthday his DLA will be paid to him rather than you. Unless there are reasons why this can't be done i.e. not able to run a bank account etc.

PS: If he's not registered in education, approved training scheme or with Connexions then you may find his CB, CTC finish at the end August don't panic though as he may be able make a claim for benefits i.e. ESA in his own name.
