Mine is £15 pa more with individual fuels using the cheapest suppliers, going with suppliers of repute is even dearer 0 0

Don't know what you're spend is but £15 is nothing in real terms - especially with two adolescents showering all the time.
Seriously though the thread makes a point, you would expect to get a noticeable discount for dual fuel.
But as they are (suppliers) not in it for our benefit one gets subsidised as a loss leader for the other."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

            Interesting.
I compared average consumption(20,500/3,300kWh) in my Area(Midlands) and the dual fuel was 2.7% cheaper
However being a heavy user, dual fuel for me was 7.5% cheaper.0

Here you are for all you doubting Thomas's
4200 kHh electricity and 19000 kWh of gas, I rounded up or down my figures.
 eon saveonline7 dual fuel
 Electricity £527.43 gas £611.94 total £1139.37
 gas only from Atlantic £644.18
electricity only from eon online22 £456.47
Also I have no idea what % it is less or more than, I don't do %s I do £s
 Total £1100.65.
Gas is dearer and electricity is cheaper but the total is still less than eon saveonline7 dual fuel which is the cheapest online tariff for me.
I don't yet know if I will go to 2 different suppliers but it is cheaper.0

            Me doubting - I don't think so;)
That's the crux isn't is yes it is cheaper but is it worth the effort, for such a small amount, that could be swallowed by a small change in consumption? Probably a timing issue too depending on when you make the comparison.
What is missing is a company who is willing to offer a fair price, no bells and whistles supply and then work hard to keep your custom by matching competitors.
It's not like they are selling a kellogs and Mr value, where there is probably a discernable difference and you pay your money and make your choice is it?
They are selling exactly the same thing. I know they all offer some form of base flex tariff but priced high so it isn't competitive a bit like the builder who doesn't want the work. Ok so there may be a slight difference in calorific values but nothing that couldn't regulated.
By imposing expiry dates on the flexible tariffs It feels more like - I have had my turn now its yours, in a controlled little party.
And who pays for all these daft tariffs and the costs of managing all this constant unnecessary - switching me and you.
IMO the fixes are loaded in their favour because any volatility is managed out before it hits the retail side and the moving average is going up - are we being served?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

When the totals are fairly close there is no 'one size fits all' answer. It depends of your level of consumption and where you live.
I did your comparison(on energyhelpline) for my area -Midlands and for the average UK consumption of 20,500kWh gas and 3,300kWh electricity and dual fuel was £27 cheaper than separate suppliers.
On my heavy consumption dual fuel was £132 cheaper.0
