New roof debris - was I naive?

Hi all,

We're currently having a new roof on our mid-terrace house. For the moment, let's leave aside the fact that we've managed to time this beautifully given the gale force winds and torrential rain we've been having.... :undecided

The roofer was recommended by our next door neighbour; local chap, and he seems to have done a good job from the look of the neighbour's roof.

I admit that I didn't ask in advance if we needed to cover things in the loft, and we haven't really got anything of concern up there, but I popped my head up through the loft hatch this evening to examine the cover that had been put over it as we have no tiles at the moment (paranoid about the weather) to be almost deluged in debris.

Almost the entire loft is covered in small bits of rubble and a coating of fine dust. Is this normal? Am I just naive??

If your tiles were torched on (bit of cement which holds the tiles in place), yes its normal - our loft space is permanently covered in bits from where the torching is coming loose, and our roof is still on ;)

We had our roof done a year ago and the loft was a mess (still is actually!) so I would say this is normal.
  • Found the same mess in our loft.....It seems they leave the mess as well!!!!!!!!!

I think that must be it - they're the original turn of the century tiles, don't know if that makes sense. Anyway, just wanted to check that I wasn't alone.

    Roof survived the night...

It's amazing how bits seem to get into even supposedly watertight roofs - we had a tree nearby that produced little flat seeds and every winter the loft would be an inch deep in them.
