Is your EA reading over your shoulder?

I'm a bit paranoid, but part of the reason I've not posted a rightmove link is because I always wondered how many EAs read this forum, and if I talk about someone behind their back I prefer them not to find out about it!

Has anyone posted here and then had the impression that their EA, or another party in the chain, had read what they had written. Or EAs, have you ever read a post and realised its about you?

The closest I've seen is a rightmove link which was to a house I've often driven past and is on the market with our EA.

You're right to worry. And it doesn't matter if you put a rightmove link up or not. Everyone here is talking about you. Your neighbours all talk about you, and everyone involved in your house buying chain is talking about you. No-one else, just YOU.

You're not a crazy paranoid wombat at all. Close the curtains, talk only with a hand over your mouth, and never take off the tinfoil hat. Oh, and don't look up either or we'll see you with one of our satelites.

I've never posted a RM link either, partly in case someone involved (buyer or seller rather than EA though) reads it, so you're not alone! Some people might think it's paranoia, but I've notice from other forums that the amount of info you can get about someone from things like this without even trying is scary! Like you, I've seen someone's link which was with our previous agent, and I commented that I found the EA to be rubbish, but I've been careful not to make my real world identity known! :)

I have avoided talking about an issue I currently have because i think it would be obvious to people involved it was me if they are members.... consequently I've kept quiet.

In particular, I don't understand those who post links to their own houses. They are giving their home address, hence their full name via a Land Registry lookup, on a public forum.

Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable with that and I wouldn't do it, even though I know I will miss some of the fine suggestions that many "knowledgeable posters" make in such cases, such as: "you should move that cattle one foot to the right, so the kitchen will look one hand bigger and you'll have 1000 more viewers who are otherwise put off by a wrong disposition of the biscuit boxes in the kitchen and cushions on the sofas".

mmm... I'm not paranoid about privacy/security/call-it-as-you-like, I just like to be on the safe side in case the advantages do not counterbalance the potential, although small and remote, risks.

also, people usually don't realise that what you write on the Internet, in blogs, forums, etc, will be available online for a long time (it's worse than talking loud in a public place, "verba volant, scripta manent") and that can be found years later (they say Internet denies one's right to be forgotten).
