you wont get charged if you read when the payment is due and how long in advance you should make the payment from the due date. both are clearly shown on your statement. just read what youve agreed to and any changes and youll be fine. Sorry, I can never get that Quote thing to work.

You clearly have never looked at a Virgin statement. I have looked at all the other, several CC statements that my husband and I receive .Every one, EXCEPT VIRGIN has the date clearly stated on the front of the statement along with the minimum payment etc. not hidden away on the back and every one, EXCEPT VIRGIN demands payment on the same date every month not moving it all the time.

That also deals with the poster who said that months have different numbers of dates. Of course they do, November only has 30 days so, in theory, the payment date should be put back, not moved forward 3 days!! How can they explian that and EVERY OTHER card has a payment date that does not move. I have looked back at my statements for over a year on the other cards and they are static. Only Virgin moves the date.

This just tells me you didn't read the terms & conditions. A simple question from me, why didn't you?

And another question, will you in the future?

I don't mean to be rude, but the worst thing about this site is rather smug posters going on about reading the T & Cs and expecting them to be written on our hearts.

Yes, I did read them, but did not memorise them. Like most other people I have to work, run a house and live a life. I set up a system to pay my CC bills on time and it only fell down on this Virgin card when they moved the date.

As far as abiding by the T & Cs goes, should not that be a two way thing - they set a payment date, why should they move if forward by 8 days in 10 months? Surely that means they are not keeping their side of the bargain.

I agree with the poster who said this was a trick to catch people out.

At the risk of getting flamed.. isnt virgin minimum payment just £5 on these offers? At least it was when I had their card. So I can't see it being a problem having enough to cover it.. just my 2 cents...

  • This happended to me and I I managed to have ALL the interest charge re credited to my account and the 0% interested period restarted.

I agree with reading T&Cs, I agree with checking your payment date. ....but... Virgin have been totally underhanded in their approach here - and instead of a variation of a day or two depending on the month, they moved my date over a week. Their policy means that you cannot set up a regular DD/STO, which I argued with them would not be regarded as 'normal' in customer relationships with Financial Insutitutions in the year 2006 (mayber 1986!!) and I would be happy to discuss this with the regulatory body to gain their views. I also pointed out that their policy had undertones of actively trying to get me into debt by ensuring that I miss a payment date.

It took me several phone calls, several letter rising up the chain - but I got there and they have agreed they have been unreasonable. I also got them to put in writing that they will not inform any credit agency of a missed payment.

Don't give up. Even if there is small print in the T&C's, the regulatory body will agree with you - these have to be obvious and you should have been informed consiously before it happened.

    Good luck

  • I always make a payment either online or by cheque on my CC's but I have also set up the minimum payment DD on them as well. That way, *if* I forget to pay, I am guaranteed not to have a late payment.

Just a security measure in my eyes...

I wasn't trying to be smug, I apologise for that - however, it just amazes me that people treat credit cards with such a relaxed attitude. I have seen them ruin many lives - and I just want people to really understand how hazardous they can be, and how important reading not only their T&Cs, but also their statements is.

(They may have also told you about the date change on your previous statement, so another good reason just to keep an eye out!)

Thats not true, DH has a Captial One card and the payment date is different every month. I assume thats a statement ever 28 days so it will change.

DD does work, the money (either minimum or full payment) will be taken out of your account on the day payment is due. You only have to take care that sufficient funds are available on that day.
That's the point. I am loathe to set up a DD as my income is variable, I only get a certain amount paid into my account directly, the rest arrives by cheques, internet transfer etc. at different times so I can never guarantee having enough there to meet the DD
Surely if you can guarantee to have enough in there using an SO, or however you pay, (though since you've posted here you clearly haven't) you should be able to guarantee there being enough in there for a DD. I'm missing something here...
