Can I get Outlook to work with live.co.uk email acccount?

Hi,

I have been trying all morning to work out how to use my Microsoft Outlook with a Microsoft "live.co.uk" account, but no matter what I try it comes back that it is unable to connect to the server.

Can anyone direct me to where there may be help or directions as to how to do this as my Outlook is full of archive emails I don't want to lose when I change my email supplier.

If I wanted to make sure I never lost emails, outlook is not the place I'd keep them - I'd look at your options of getting them out of outlook.

Hotmail/Windows Live mail have a paid for service that allows this. If you only have the free service, Outlook (being a microsoft product) will be designed to make it difficult for you!

Use Mozilla Thunderbird - when setting up a new 'account' (adding an email address), it will automatically pick up hotmail/windows live mail settings from your email address and password. It will only import what is in the inbox, but you can move anything you want to the live mail inbox then click 'checkmail' in Thunderbird. Once you have got everything on your hard drive, go into Outlook and import from Thunderbird...

Utter rubbish, MS provide a free plugin to allow ALL Hotmail users access to their account through Outlook.

My mistake over Outlook - I was thinking of Outlook Express and the hotmail plus service - but there was no reason to be so rude Killerwatt!

Regardless, there is generally more than one way to do things and my advice about using Thunderbird with Hotmail is still relevant. Someone else stumbling on this thread might find it is the best solution for them.

Outlook express was scrapped a few years ago. Livemail is a lot more flexible about working with hotmail as is outlook.
