Have I fitted the brushes the wrong way round?

I've just spent ages trying to get the motor out of my washing machine. I finally manged it and was so chuffed I'd got that far that I whipped the old brushes out and didn't pay enough attention to which way they sat.

I put the new brushes in and the machine is now working but it's making a really strange noise like some sort of wind up toy. I'm now wondering if I've put the brushes in the wrong way?

Assuming 'o' is the motor....I put them in with the longer part at the top so they would be kinda like this.... /O\ (obviously not as angled though). Is that wrong?

I would say that they need to be \O\ or /O/ for the rotation that the motor is, and now its probably wearing the carbon bush so that it wears /O/ from /O\.

    Catch me.?

I did actually look at a few videos but I just wasn't getting it. :o

I've taken it apart again and angled them like you have above, that seems to align better. I didn't take on board that the slots the brushes fit into are angled themselves.

Thanks. Will go put it all back together again now. :D

That's it, fixed now, working perfectly and very quiet.

They were only in the wrong way for a few minutes and I stopped the machine as soon as I heard the noise so no damage done thankfully.
