Can't afford Slimming World

Hi, I need to lose weight...I know all the basics about calories, eat less, excercise more etc...I just can't stick with it (yo-yo dieter).
I've heard great things about Slimming World, but I really can't afford the classes.
Can anyone tell me where I can find out the complete ins & outs of how the plan works? I wouldn't mind if I had to buy books etc, not just recipe books...but basically an A to Z of Slimming World.
Thanks in advance

I got a set of their books from freecycle. They were a year or two out of date, but fine for purpose! Why not place a wanted post?
Or, it's half price membership at Slimming World the moment, you can join and go to the first class and get all the books for £9.95, then don't go back and follow the plan yourself at home. You will get your money back (and make a profit sometimes) by keeping your books in good condition and selling them on ebay once you are svelte !!0 -
Thanks Bronnie, I will look into it...but I don't think we have Freecycle in our area0

you can generally buy the books that explains how it works on ebay, i did SW about a year ago before I got pregnant and it was good. The way it works (at least when I did it) is that you can have unlimited amounts of fruit/veg/pasta/rice/lean meats and a million other things which are all highlighted in the book (i think the book is called extra easy) you can then have a certain amount of "healthy extras" which account for your daily intake of fibre and calcium so you would choose something off the list to have everyday (i generally had milk for tea and bread fo toast of a couple of their cereral bars) . Then you have a daily allowance of "syns", and this is the genius bit, you have to have between 5 and 15 syns a day for the diet to work so you can still have crisps or choc but id usually use mine on things like mayo or marg for baked potatoes or mash.
I hope this is all correct, im doing it all from memory! When I first explained it to my husband he couldnt uderstand how i could lose weight when i was eating way more than i was before but I did!!! Ill def be doing it again once the new baby is here.
Oh and you also can have a flexile syns night once a week with no adverse effects which means once a week you can have a pig out on a chinese or a curry and a few wines and not worry about it,, it makes the diet really doable!0 -
Eat around 1400 calories per day.
Avoid anything with more than 5% fat. * Although every week have a fatty meal (avoid gallstones). *
Try to get most of your calories from Protein rather than Carbohydrates.
Drink plenty of water.
... and when you feel you can (depending on weight, health):
Excercise. This is key - don't do something that exhausts you.
Brisk walking for half an hour is fine, anything that increases your heart-rate for 30 mins or more is best for weight loss.
I lost 10 stone in 7 months.
I started at 27 stone.0 -
I bought a CD off Ebay for £4 which included all the 3 plans, and a load of sheets of recipies. Just did a quick search and there are lots available around that price."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0

missminx007, that sounds ideal for me....I must have a look now for a starter pack.

The best idea from Slimming World when my dh and I went was that you imagine your plate to be divided into thirds. Put meat on 1/3, veg on 1/3 and carbs (pasta, potatoes etc) on the last 1/3. Also limit your bread to 2 slices a day. You can use a book to look up number values but thats where I give up because I cba! The thirds thing really helps tho - but obviously don't go frying everything!0

There's a thread here in the Health and Beauty BoardI'll move this over later, where it may get merged.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies.
