If you watched the program it was pretty obvious that you don't need 8 people to make the £100k. 3/4 of them are useless and just stand there. If I remember most of the money was made by selling the fruit salads. That would be relatively easy to replicate without having 8 members of staff.

Yes but there are all the other factors mentioned. Such as the trading licences and permissions.
I see lots of similar operations in Manchester and they wouldn't exist if you couldn't make money out of it!

Yes, no one is saying it's not possible to start a business and make money.

It's just that it takes a lot of work over a period of time - it's not as easy as Sugar makes out.

He spent a lot of time as a Del Boy before he got enough to get into electronics manufacture.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

Despite being a fan of The Apprentice, I don't take it as a business show, it's for entertainment. Most of the people on there couldn't run a bath (to nick a comment made last night!)

But I do agree that it is easy to start a business if you've got the skill and motivation to do it. Obviously keeping that business going is harder but it can be done, it's done every single day.

Well of course, if you haven't got an idea then you can't start a business. Don't you have any hobbies that you could turn into a business?

A friend at uni was put on the shortlist for this season. QUOTE]

I was told, by someone who knew a winners mom, the winner is offered a 6 figure contract, but only for the first year. After that they revert to a more normal 30-40k contract.

So if you're a high flyer earning 90k a year (as some claim) perhaps it's not such a prize.
