Not a very helpful post from you there.
If you're making so much money out of Ebay and Tax Evasion what the heck are you doing posting on MSE?
Seriously, 40,000 feedback in 3 years = trader.
Please don't advise people on MSE to break the law. The OP has stated that they do not currently pay Tax or NI and wish to do so. Don't knock their honesty.
I do sell personal items on Ebay and have considered trading ebooks (legit ones) and other items in an Ebay shop but have not bothered as yet because of the time required to set things up in a proper and legal sense.
Good luck to all those of you who are trading and paying your dues.
Can't see what all the fuss is about. I'm not advising ANYONE to break the law. I'm just trying to point out that 'ebay' and 'paying tax' don't go in the same sentence. I reckon that the vast majority of Ebay sellers don't pay tax on their sales, regardless of what capacity they're shifting stuff at.
Like I say, if the tax man thinks you should be paying tax he'll let you know, trust me.

The OP titled this thread as "Ebay as a part time JOB",
so i suggest that we stay on topic here.
I've just checked and the domain https://www.taxevadingexpert.com is available for purchase, maybe a new forum could be set up there.0 -
POLITE BG NOTE
Can I please remind all users to read the sticky thread 'ethics' on this forum.
Any income from the sale of goods (not your own items though) is subject to tax and vAT (where appropriate) under UK law. UK tax laws require an element of self declaration and failure to declare can result in a fine or even, at the very worst, a criminal record.

You're implying that in some way the tax man has had a look at your ebay account and decided that you don't need to pay tax.
WHEN they get you - and they will (either by someone touting on you OR by getting ebay to provide them with peoples details based on 'where items sold > 500' or something like that) - they will have a handy paper trail from ebay of everything you have ever sold. They will then tax you on what they 'think' you have earned RETROSPECTIVELY, probably based on some nominal percentage for your profit like 25% of turnover, and bill you for it. Also if your turnover > 65000 in any 12 month period you should be vat registered, which means you would lose 17.5% of your profit in VAT too.
They do catch up with people, especially someone with the glaringly obvious trading record - documented via ebay - that you profess to have.0 -
the only way that the taxman isn't interested is when you are selling YOUR OWN things on ebay, if you are doing it as a business then you SHOULD be registered with hmrc, I know of someone who is currently making in excess of £1000 per week on ebay and hasn't declared it , they are in for a huge shock when they are inevitabley caught, it's when rather than if. there is only so much "stuff" that you can pass off as your own belongings until it starts to look very suspect. I really hope that hmrc are investigating ebay sellers, I will feel even more smug when the tax avoiders are splashed all over the papers, especially if they happen to be benefit cheats too."There is a light that never goes out"0

Crikey, I thought this was moneysavingforums not self-righteous do-gooders.com.
If you want to pay tax then get on with it, but I prefer not to until I'm prodded, at which point I'll pay what's due and not a penny more.

The UK tax system is based on self assessment ... not declaring ( waiting to be found) is likely to be met with a penalty fine on top of tax owingAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0
