We got married in St Lucia but need to fly to London first. We booked with Virgin and got are connecting flights booked with them as well. Did this 5 years ago and cost £3000 for 2 weeks with 3 kids.

Have you tried www.weddingsabroad.com or many similar site available through google.

Virgin do good packages and transfers from Belfast are usually included for free www.virginholidays.co.uk/brochures/weddings

Alternatively a nice weekend in Gretna if the weather is nice.

P.S. If I had to do it over again, I'd be off to Vegas with a big white sequined suit ;)
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

    Hi!

We are getting married June 2012 in Cuba. We are in the process of booking it just now.

Basically, cost wise, we are looking at about £2000 for the two week holiday for us as a couple, and then the wedding is £520 (inc cake, flowers, food, registrar etc). We are booking with Thomsons and we visited the resort we are getting married in last year.

There will be 14 guests. Just parents and siblings, and then some friends. Just the way we wanted it. We asked some people whether they would like to come, but we were very quick to stress that it is a lot of money and we would completely understand if they couldnt come, and we didnt guilt trip anyone. It will be a completely relaxed affair. So essentially, we just asked people if they fancied making their holiday for that year as a trip to Cuba, and if yes, then we'd love them to give up a day of their trip for our wedding.

Everyone has been great about it and everyone is all excited, which is nice.

  • We are getting married in Cuba at the begining of July. £3000 for the flights and hotels for two of us and £750 for the wedding package. Just the two of us - nice and simple and just the way we wanted it.

I also got married in Cuba 3 years ago. IIRC it was £2200 for the holiday (2 wks AI), and ~£350 for the wedding package (included legal costs). No direct flights from NI, so had to go through Gatwick.

We used an agent in London called the holiday place, who have a dedicated wedding site for foreign marriages ( www.theweddingsplace.co.uk ). Be warned though, as they have a photo gallery of real weddings, and will ask you to appear on it. I'm up there in all my Don Johnsonesque glory :o

Whole process was really smooth. The first person we met at the resort was the wedding co-ordinator who was waiting for us in reception. Only glitch was the registrar was held up for 30 mins but other than that it was great service all the way.

You will need to send a copy of your birth certificate and passport to the agent to have them translated into Spanish before going. These need to go to the Foreign Office and the Cuban Consulate in London for legalisation, and you will have to bring them and the originals with you to the wedding.

We had a photographer on the day, who was able to take the photos, and then bring the album back to the hotel that evening for us, and I seem to remember that cost around £80. There were around 80 photos for that, but unfortunately they are not digital, so we had to scan them when we returned to make copies.
He approached us in the hotel after speaking to the wedding co-ordinator and her seeking our permission for him to tout to us. Again, all very simple. Didn't expect any payment until he returned and we were happy with the results.

Very easy to organise, pretty much hassle and stress free (AI alcohol helped!) and infinitely more preferable than lavishing £25K for a single day out in NI.

You won't get the marriage cert on the day, as this has to go through offices in Cuba before issue. Expect it to take about 3 months to arrive.

Good luck with the plans, and hopefully you get a decent deal at a decent price.

we're getting married in Spain next yr, had a look around lots of countries and options and decided on south spain in gorgeous little typically spanish village called Nerja. Its easy to get to flights to malaga with aer lingus, easy jet and now bmi baby. We also wanted a church wedding and its quite hard to do in alot of countries if your not resident but in spain only legal wedding for a non resident is a catholic one which suited us down to ground.

We looked at packages offered by tour companies but read lots of bad reviews such as lack of ability to personalise it, your one of hundreds having their wedding organised and risk it basically being like a conveyor belt were your having your ceremony and next one is queuing up behind you.

instead we found a great wedding planner - Kerry from Celebrations in spain who we met with when she was over doing a wedding fayre in dublin. Shes originally from crossgar so is well familiar with what irish wedding entails, she can organise as little as as much as you want and i can honestly say shes been so helpful. There are also lots of other highly recommended planners out there.

if your not having a big wedding i'd say spain would be quite cheap and it might be best investing in a wedding planner of some sort to make sure all legal bases are covered. There are some gorgeous places in spain but obviously i'm a little biased, i'm sure no matter where you decide it'll be lovely!
