hi there,
i am self employed, single, no kids.
sent my first claim for working tax credit on 1st of october
every time i phoned help line my application has been in progress
in february i received a compliance check letter to provide different evidence. i sent everything back to them promptly
in march received a letter from compliance that my claim has been accepted and a seperate letter will be sent out to me with final decision/award
since then i havent received anything
phoned helpline and the same message that my claim is being progressed
shall i send a complaint to them about unreasonable delay?
has anyone been in similar situation? check done, accepted but still no award
thanks for your help and advise

Can you ask to speak to somebody else who will tell you when it will be completed? or go along to your job centre and see if they can help?0

Hi. I am not sure how he Jobcentre can assist with this?
To the OP: I was helping someone the other day. He has made a claim to WTC as he started self employment. When I spoke to the Tax Credit Helpline, asking why he had not had any payments, the advisor said, it says "award entitled" but no payments had been issued as they needed an estimate of the profit the business was going to make that year and from that - they would decide what level of TC to pay.
I asked the person to estimate the profit butthe person did not want to do this as they had no idea of the figure.
When I told the TC operator this - she said, no payments will be sent until they know this.
Is there anyway, you could have not completed that question on the application and that is what is holding up the payment?
The person I was helping was in the same situation as you. Single, no children and trying to start self employment. That was all that was holding up the claim. But the 3 or 4 times he had made contact with TC - he had never been advised of this.
Not sure if that helps you at all - but hope you get it fixed.0 -
great advise, thank you!
i will phone them tomorrow and ask whether they need this information because they havent asked me abt that themselves.0 -
it is just a total nightmare!
contacted hmrc as advised by MCGONIS but they again said that claim is being processed. i asked if they are missing any informartion thats holding this back but they said no and they can't add anything any expected income for next yr before award is in place. so basically award hasn't been issued and situation is the same as 7 months ago !
i filed a complaint and the case worker was supposed to ring me back the next day. she did and say that on the claim there is note that they are suspecting i have undeclared partner and they send me letter in march to respond to compliance office.
i had invextigation done in march but on my self employment and everything has been accepted as i mentioned in my original post!
i told the case worker that they might have mixed up the claims as i havent received any letter asking me to proof i havent got a partner. lady advised me to contact compliance officer who accepted my check on sa.
i did contact him and from his side everything is clear. he is not holding my claim, he has completed his checks in march as advised by the letter.
i told him about all the situation again and he advised it might be computer/system fault or breakdown. something like that and in 7-10 days i should be able to have decision.
i absoluteely dont believe him as after nearly 8 months of waiting my claim is still being processed after even compliance checks done in march!
on top of that i handed my case to accountant and he phoned them on my behalf, they told him the same thing that claim is being processed. when he phoned next day they didnt have his authorization to talk on my behalf any more! how did it disappear in a day?
therefore i had to phone them myself
i feel that it is so unreasonable delay, ive been so let down by tax credit office and i think i have the worst luck in the world.
anyone any thoughts on that?0 -
can anyone advice what more i can do?0
