Advice needed please!Mobile phone company giving me bad credit rating for their fault

I have a lot of info on this but I will try to keep it down the important parts.

I had a contract with a mobile company and I ended it early so they said they'd charge me for it which I agreed to. So a month or so later I receive a letter for the final amount and I used the details and instructions on that letter to make the payment online. Then I just forgot about.

3+ months later I get a call from a debt collection agency who say they are chasing that final payment. I told them I paid it but they told me to pay up now or face more fees and possibly court. They also said that they'd been sending me letters to my old address for ages. This means the mobile company gave them the wrong address and all that time they'd been chasing, and I had not been responding, they'd been putting late payment marks on my credit record. I told both companies I have paid but neither could find it even with the exact date and time I made the payment.

since all that, I have contacted my bank and someone has investigated the issue then sent me a hand signed letter saying that the company received the payment correctly. I have faxed this letter through to the correct fax and have since not heard anything from either companies even though they told me I'd get confirmation that its sorted.

What can I do about my credit rating that they have screwed up and possibly seek compensation for all this hassle?

So have the phone company agreed that the debt is paid off completely?
If so, make sure you get that in writing.

Having done that, you need to put pressure on the phone company to repair your credit record.
    They must do that.

Compensation... itemise all the extra expense this has caused to you, and send them a bill.
Suggest to them that they need to make a goodwill gesture to cover the inconvenience you have suffered due to their mistake.

Thanks for the advice. This morning I phone the debt collectors who said the phone company haven't contacted them in over a month but they cant confirm that the bill had been paid.

So then I called the phone company, they said that the money I owe is now at 0. The reason I have had no confimation of this is that they sent it to my old address that I changed mid last year. Both companies have sent me letter trying to get me to pay the bill to my new address!!! How does this happen?!?!

This is the WORST servcie I have ever encountered.

Thanks again, Im going to write the letter now.
