It's not normal.. unplug it from the mains overnight (just in case), and send it back.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Check that the power lead was connected to the back of the TFT securely - I've heard CRT and LCD monitors make this sound if the plug is loose in the socket.
If it makes the same noise even with the power lead in securely, then it's time to call Dell, sorry!0 -
I've heard that can sometimes happen if you have the display settings set higher than the resolution the monitor uses, and if you leave it at that and ignore the setting, the monitor can indeed go boom.0

Brownfrog your wonderful!
I just went through all the paperwork with the montior and found sound information on setting the monitor where it says what setting it should be at. i had it on a higher resolution, and now i have changed it the hissing has stopped!!!!!!!! i must have been putting the screen under too much stress for the past few days?
brilliant brownfrog.
must admit i did like the previous setting as everything was so wondefully big! but if it will ruin the monitor i will keep it on the recommended settings. thanks0 -
Great! Glad it helped.0
