Pre-Payment meters
I've always had a pre payment meter for my electricity but have been told this is much more expensive that being billed. Is it genuinely cheaper or does it depend on the supplier. I'm currently with British Gas but thinking of switching. If i wanted to change the pre payment meter would it cost me anything and how much?

my friend had a house not on rent (empty)
he was paying £2.50 in gas and 1.50 electric a week in charges, even though none was being used (standing charge or something)
billed is always cheaper than prepayed.0 -
The tariff on prepayment meters is the same as the standard tariff for other users. It is the most expensive tariff the company has. British Gas will change the meter if you ask. They will run a credit check and if you fail it they will ask for a rather large deposit but if you pass the credit check all is good.0

I think you are fortunate in this respect that you are with British Gas. They are probably the most flexible supplier in getting prepayment meters removed0
