Can't open a Word attachment

Hi

I don't have Microsoft Office/Word and thanks to recommendations on here I now use Open Office. I have received an attachment that I need to open but whenever I click it it goes into an old trial version of word that is locked for editing so I can't complete the form to return it.

How do I get the form to open in Open Office rather than Word?

    SOunds like your file associations need changing (so that opening those files uses Open Office rather than Word) ... but that's technical.

    How about you save the file onto your computer somewhere. Then start Open Office, and open the file that you saved. Complete it and re-save it. Then reattach to your reply.

    Have you got the latest version of OpenOffice installed. The newer versions of Word use a .docx format rather than the traditional .doc
    I think OO have supported this for a while, but depends on if you have updated it.

    You could have also saved the attachment, went to it in Explorer and click on it with the right mouse button where you would be given an option to "open with". Selecting that would allow you to select Openoffice and change the default to always use Openoffice.
