telling about pregnancy to work- Form MB1

Hi, I am going to inform my boss that I am pregnant in a couple of weeks time. I will prob be about 16 weeks then. I know I have to do it in writing and also submit a MAB1 form. I believe this is a form that the midwife gives you that states you are pregnant and when your due date is. Is this correct? I have only seen my community midwife once when I was just over 8 weeks and then when I went for my scan in the hospital it was a different midwife who works there.
Can anyone advice who I get this form from or when I am supposed to get it. Thanks in advance. Good to get something else sorted in my head!
Ps. Can anyone tell me what you would put down in writing. Feels abit funny saying ''I am pregnant''.

I am pretty sure you don't get your matb1 form until 20-25 weeks (think it's 25wks). You only need to tell your employer before then if you wish to make use of the paid time off for ante-natal appointments (including parent craft) or if your job would involve risk to an unborn child eg, if you work in area where potentially harmful chemicals are used.
You make the decision on when you take maternity leave and then inform your employer.
Your employer should know all this and if they don't you can ask them to look at the nidirect website where they can get info on stat maternity policies.

You will not get ur mat b 1 form until about 20 weeks and af ur 20 week scan. I am on Ml atm atm and I Informed my work in an informal chat whilst handing in a formal letter outlining my estimated dates.

Thanks for your reply. I know I don't have to tell until 15weeks before my due date which would make me 25 weeks pregnant. However, I think he might guess before then :). and I will be on school hols then (teacher). I have a DENI form to fill abt when maternity leave commences, due date etc and on that it asks you to submit the MAB1 form as well.
I heard from someone that you get this form from your midwife when you have ur big scan around 20 weeks. Wondering if this is correct and if so, I wouldn't have my certificate when I need it (when I a telling). Bit confused.:(

I have no date yet for my 20 week scan. I am 14 weeks at the moment. Can I get the form earlier if I need to give it into work when I am telling them (I know it isn't needed until 25weeks but I will be on school hols then and it will be too late when I go back in September. I would like to get forms and that sorted before then.
If I am goin off work when I am 34 weeks that would mean I have to tell when I am 19 weeks pregnant (15 weeks before I anticipate going off on maternity). Does this mean I need the MB1 for this date?
  • Hi, you get mat b1 form from your midwife, I had to ask for it both times and think I wasn't given it until I was 24 weeks. You hand the forms to your school when you're 25 weeks, 15 wks before due date, no matter when you plan to finish. I'd speak to your principal explain it's over summer and see what they say.

I have emailed the department there and told them about being off over the summer and was there anything else I could send along now when I tell my principal before I get my MB1

    I have another question now!
I had one appointment with a community midwife at my local drs surgery when I was just over 8 weeks. When I went for my scan at 10weeks and 3 days in my local hospital, it was done by a doctor and there was a nurse (I persume she was a midwife) there as well.
Problem is, I don't know really know if my midwife if this one in the hospital, the one I seen at 8 weeks or someone else.
Also! My dr wanted me to check if the bloods I had got done by my community midwife at 8 weeks were checked okay for iron levels. These were taken by the community midwife in the drs surgery but the results were told to me in the hospital by the other lady. I don't know who to ring and check with!
This was never really explained or am I just a bit thick!

Your midwife is the community one. She should have given you a set of notes that you carry round, the name of your midwife and her contact details should be in there. She can tell you the results, just give her a ring.
Your MATB1 form only needs to go in 15 weeks prior to your due date, not the date you intend to start maternity leave. They are issued after your annomally scan.
There is no harm in asking, but I know my midwife refused until after my scan.
The school should have a policy to cover when they are closed, I am sure they will have had this happen before :)
