Moorcroft at the door!

Had a knock at door at 7.30pm. It was a guy from Moorcroft debt co. I've received letters before which i've filed in the bin. I think it's about a phone bill from 2006. The mobile company promised to cap bill at £40 per month. They didnt and months bill was something like £170 (internet usage) which was a ludicrous. i couldnt pay ad got cut off. they then added over £1000 for early termination of contract!
I am now only working part time as a single mother to a disabled child. I have never acknowledged debt and refuse to.
Do they have any legal right? I politely said ''no thank you' to the man, shut the door and hid upstairs until he left.

seriously, you really shouldn't use a bin as a filing cabinet...0

If you have it in writing that the bill was capped at £40, then tell them to take it to court. If you don't, then pay it.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
no i am not. when i took out contract i was promised they wouldnt let me use more than £40 month. i used some intrnet and never dreamed it would cost me like that. i have suffered from severe depression and almost had a breakdown a couple months ago. i just get worried and the letters go in bin. i can only work part time as getting childcare for my son is practically impossible.0

What do you have to support your belief that the charges would be capped at £40? Is this just the one month's bill you owe?
This is a pretty depressing tale of what happens when you ignore a debt...."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
i honestley cant remember if i had it in writing. it is nearly 5 years ago. in that time i've become a parent, suffered domestic violence, become a single parent and my son has been diagnosed with a lifelong disability and requires constant 1:1 care at all times and is fully statemented. it's all quite foggy. i genuinely didnt try to run up a big bill.0

The only network I know which has officially capped tariffs (they tick over to payg with no credit when you hit your cap) is t-mobile - they are officially called FLEXT tariffs - is that what this is?
I think you need to provide more details, like others say you have to want to get out of the problem - try to keep emotion out of it as it doesnt help us to help you...0 -
one months bill its from 2006. i have had to move four times since. the disconnection whacked it up so much

Ok, stop now.
You have a debt - thats the issue here - lets stick to that and advise you accordingly. You can't hide from the debt collectors, they will catch up with you eventually. Its a contract you took out which you are obligated to complete through payment.
You don't dispute you used the service, so its now about settling the debt.0 -
no it wasnt t mobile it was back in 06. in all honesty i cant remember if i had it in witing. i clearly remember salesgirl assuring me they'd cap it? maybe she just wanted commission from giving me a contract.0

You're not saying you've moved just to get away from this debt..? Is that just a coincidence?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
