Car trouble please help.
Hi guys
Just posted this in another part of the forum, and got diverted here.:D
I bought a peugeot 207 (2007 plate) on the 1st September last year. (used saving, and sale of my old car) From a family run garage who deals with Fords, occasionally they have other makes there, hence me buying the peugeot. Bargain SO I THOUGHT!
Saturday was driving in the 3rd lane of the M1 all by myself 75mph and suddenly it started to lose power, ! popped up on my dash and I had to pull over to lane 1 until the hard shoulder turnt up. Omg this was awful it got down to 15mph then the hard shoulder appeared. Anyway AA came to my rescue and told me Cam belt snapped and valves looked damaged, I refused to be towed with him as he expected me to steer my car And I felt uneasy, so another AA guy came and put my car on the truck and I sat inside the truck. (luckily I am covered with AA)
Anyway, towed to the garage I bought the car from. And thankfully have a courtesy car (Ka 2002).
Anyway mechanic rung me this morning told me, Car was not fit for even a beast , Water pump damaged, valves damaged and cam belt snapped. £800 minumum to fix .
I have found my original receipt, and a 30 day warranty. But I swear I took out an extra year with it (But can't find proof). That is what I told the mechanic, and he was waiting for the office staff to come in to ask them and then let me know (as of yet not heard nothing).
Where do I stand? I do not have £800 just hanging around, And the reason for buying a newish car was to cut on mechanical issues. But my old car I never had any trouble with !!!!!!..

When was the belt last changed/due to be changed next?0

It's only 4 years old (just) AA guy told me it's strange as belts don't normally go until it's 10 years old or done a certain amount of mileage.
I can't remember the mileage but it's not that much under 60k am sure.
I have googled and this is a common problem with these cars
. Might just get the work done and then perhaps sell and go back to ford? I need a reliable car with my job. BUT at this current market I doubt I will get near as to what I paid for it just over £6k ?
What shall I do?
Would these problems happen again once this has all been rectified now? Perhaps just a factory fault?0 -
I wouldn't be happy, but not sure how you stand, it could be a water pump that went causing the other failures, but if I had only owned the car since September then i would hope the selling dealer would be of some help.
Sorry i can't be more help, I am sure somebody will be along that knows more about such a situation, your experience is one reason why i have a habot of buying camchain drivern cars or change the cambelt and waterpump much earlier than the manufacturer recommends.
If you get no help from the selling dealer, then a second hand engine from a smashed up 207 with low miles may be a cheaper way to get you back on the road.0 -
thanks bijl helped a lot

It will be water pump failure causing cambelt failure.0

If you cannot find any paperwork to prove you bought an extra warranty then i guess you will have to pay yourself.
Even if you had a warranty it may state failed items that cause damage to other parts are not covered. So their
inspector says yes the pump failed which caused subsequent damage to the belt/engine which is not covered.
They have too many get out clauses.
You can ask the supplying garage to contribute but i dont think you can get them to pay?? No issues since september?
5 years or 70,000 miles belt replacement? Temperature gauge normal when it went?
Did the pump fail & damage the belt of did the belt fail & damage the pump?
Piling all your money into a car is risky not matter how new/old. They can all breakdown. Better these days
but always exceptions.
I remember late 80's and the early 90's most broken down cars i spotted were fairly new if not brand new.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It will be water pump failure causing cambelt failure.
That is correct And then the valves were damaged.
I am waiting for garage to call me back (The garage that have my car are owned by Ford who I bought my Peugeot from). They are finding out where I stand. Maybe they may help towards costs If not then I will have to use my credit card which has a balance of £0 And has been hidden away for a rainy day. I guess this is a rainy day.:(0 -

No coincidence that breakdowns dramatically fell after Rover was shut down.0 -
