No wages paid, liquidation imminent

Just thought I'd give this a go, I hope I am doing it right. The company my husband has worked for for nearly 5 years were unable to pay any wages last month, and it looks as though it's going to happen again this month. We are assuming that liquidation is the next step, and so are expecting redundancies etc.
With three children and a mortgage to worry about my husband has managed to find a temporary job, outside his normal working hours to help us get by.
Will this affect his final redundancy payment whether it comes from the company or government?
He is still calling into work to show he is available as they have asked.
Surley no one can expect a family to survive on nothing!!
Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Any advice is welcome

He should be paid or not go into work any more until he is paid. He'd then be unemployed and can claim jobseekers allowance. They are in breach of contract so he'd get it straight away. It does not affect his redundancy payment by working elsewhere but he must be available to return to work when they pay him for the work done so far.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

He doesn't have to physically go to work, just has to phone every morning, until further notice. He does have to attend a briefing each Monday, but it's always the same- no news. His union seems usless and it's damn right frustrating!! I wish they'd just go into liquidation or whatever, so we can get on with life, they have us stuck between a rock and a hard place0

Ermm - no. Not entirely - or even vaguely - correct. Sorry.
It is a breach of contract not to pay someone. But the correct (in law) response is not to not go into to work until you are paid! That puts you in breach of contract too!
Your OH may take up any extra employment he likes providing that the terms of his regular job do not prevent him from doing this, and providing that he can still do the full time job as well (no overlap). Provided that this overlap does not happen (which you say is not the case) and he is fully available for his normal job and complies with the conditioms (phone up or turn up as they say), then he is fine. But he cannot claim JSA if he is also working, although ther may be other benefits he could claim.0
