Boy's birthday party - age 7. As cheap as possible!

Hello,
I need some ideas for my eldest child's birthday at the end of the month. He wanted to go 10 pin bowling but there isn't one near enough (I wouldn't like to drive my children 15 miles to attend a party so don't want to ask that of other parents). We are stuck on what to do instead. I have suggested the cinema but he isn't overkeen. The local laser quest won't have him till he's 8.
swimming pool is too expensive (£15 a head). Not sure I want a party at home. Any other suggestions?! I don't want a huge affair - something smaller for sat 4-5 friends.
thanks!

Oh go on, have a party at home! So few kids get to do this these days that they have become the big 'treat' party than going out used to be. They are good fun if you let rip and don't worry about a bit of mess, and if it's only a small group it won't be much work.
It's dead cheap too.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

Cheap as possible is to organise a picnic party in the park with some party games"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
picnic in the park and a game of football. Bad weather you could order a pizza buy popcorn and watch a dvd. I know you said not at home but it is cheap option if you keep the numbers down.
edit: if you are brave you could buy value pizza bases and get them to make their own pizza.0 -
2nd vote here for picnic in the park/garden if big enough. DD is 11 this summer and is over the moon at that sugestion. picnic food really easy and cheap to make, going to use the park a couple of miles away as they have better play quipment.
borrowing a box of mixed sports day type games (bean bags etc)
if it does happen to rain will postpone it for another dayLead us not into temptation...
just tell us where it is and we'll find it....0 -
If you have a tent (they can be very cheap) why not set it up in the local park as a base (not too far from the loos!) and have the party there. Or just go to the park anyway and organise vigorous games - tell them to wear their very oldest clothes and let them go wild.0

thanks all. The park idea is a good one as his birthday is over the bank holiday weekend. A couple of hours playing with a picnic and maybe once round the boating lake isn't a bad idea! Anyone else?0

We just had an Indiana party in the park for our 6yr old.Issued them with a brown fedora (£1 from £world) and took them to our nearby park with the aim of playing party games there..not a chance the boys just wanted to run through the trees play hide and seek and collect wood for a fire .great time ahd by allLife is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0
