Hi Guys, I have it on good authority that you may be able to help. I have searched to see if anyone else has asked and the nearest I can find is the sign language lady but the replies in her thread are confusing me as I know nothing of Hijackthis etc.
My problem..
Yesterday everything was fine, today I switch on and I can only get sound, no picture, on any Flash applications. No updates or changes have been made at all.
I am using FF 4.0.1 and updated from the RC version whenever the new version was out, a week or two ago. I am on an oldish Sony Vaio VGN-N31M running on Vista SP2
I tried IE and that was telling me I need to install Flash Player 10. It's been installed for yonks and worked until today.
So I did some googling and below is a list of what I have tried in vain so far:
I've unistalled and reinstalled Flash Player (with browsers closed)
I've done a system restore to the day before yesterday
I've uninstalled and re-installed FF
I've been to my display settings and updated the driver (mobile intel(R) 945GM Express chipset family)
I've clicked on the troubleshoot tab but the "change settings" button is greyed out and the text reads: "Your current display driver does not allow changes to be made to hardware acceleration settings"
I then in my desperation tried Opera and find that everything works fine in there so that makes me think it's not the lappy.
Please can anyone help? I've spent the whole day on it and it's driving me mental, I'm from the comps board and compers NEED flash!
TIA

can you delete the mozilla/ff folder in the c drive - programmes?? could need to be reset. also, possibly roll back to an older version of FF. also, go to add/remove programmes and check if there are two instances of flash. i dont know if this happens on windows, but it can happen with linux and so there is a conflict and the broswer doesnt know what version to use!
I have to say, this is a weird one. hope i was of some help.... but probably not so apologies in advance & ill keep trawling the net to find you an answer/solutionI'm not normally a religious man, but... if you're up there, save me, Superman!0 -
Hi Clint, thanks so much for your reply.. I have it working now, it was the roll back, I installed 3.6.17 and it worked, then tried 4.0.1 again and it didn't. The only problem was, for some reason none of my addons would work in any version after that so I've had to go for a completely fresh install after all (now loading bookmarks and preferences and addons...... and on and on lol) Flash is still not working in IE though but I'm not worried about that as I only use it on very rare occasions.
I would love to hear from you, or anyone else, if you find out why it's not working in FF 4 though, as I was becoming quite fond of it and would like to go back to it asap.
Thanks again for the helpThat ain't working! That's the way to do it, money for nothing and TV's for free0 -
I have just had a look in FF4 on my Windows 7 pc, and flash certainly works ok there.
Do you have any addons that could be conflicting with Flash - I have Noscript, and that certainly blocks it until I allow the site.
You can check Flash version and basic function here http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about0 -
If it works in this:
http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
Then try copying your profile into it. If it stops working, then it's your profile. If it still works, then it's your Firefox installation.
I'd make a new profile anyway and reinstall Firefox. Just backup your password/bookmarks like others have shown how lately:
Go into the bookmark manager (Organise bookmarks in FF3.6, or Show all Bookmarks in FF4, then export them). Use Password Exporter to save your passwords https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/password-exporter/
After that, just keep a note of your Addons/Extensions and Personas/Themes. Anything else you can just change back to how you like it.0 -
Hi, thanks so much for your help and replies. A quick update just in case it helps someone else..
I'm finally back on FF4 and all is well :j
I found a tip that suggested disabling hardware acceleration in flash would solve my problem but I was unable to access the settings menu whilst in FF4 while I had the problem, so gave up on that idea. Then it occurred to me this morning whilst using the horrible buggy 3.6 that maybe if I do it there then reload 4 it would solve the problem and it did - a very odd one, but sorted. That ain't working!
